Bubble- Magus skimmer has arrived

mine is dead silent.

the BM100 is close for a 75+20, it's perfect on my 58 +15 thus far.
If you have a heavy bioload, go bigger, if you don't the BM100 will suffice.

My water height in the sump is just shy of 9", in the skimmer body itself I have the bubbles breaking just inside the riser for pretty dry foam, maybe an inch up or so for wetter foam.

While 10" in the sump is preferred, I think you can perform OK with less. The key clearly is stability of water height in the sump. My 1/4 of fluctuation because of my ATO is enough to change performance.

Overall, I'm pleased thus far.

I just ordered the BM100. We'll see how this compares to the ASMs, Remoras, Bubble Kings and Euro-Reefs that I am used to.

This really sucks. I was finally thinking I had solved my "What skimmer to get?" dilemma. I have 7" of water in my sump.

It appears that, at 7", I will have cavitation issues with the pump for the BM100.

Oh well. The search goes on.

My MSX200 is pulling some NASTY funk from my tank sitting in about 6" of water :D

Here's 2 days in my 26gDT, 29g sump/fuge!

And here you can see the water level! don't mind the paper towel in the silencer...i bought it used with the silencer missing

Couldn't you somehow make some adjustments to get the extra 2" of water? Raise a baffle or add an addition to one?

Yes, the pump sits under the skimmer, but it needs to be in deeper water to perform right.

You are going to have a difficult time finding a skimmer in that price rang that won't need mods/upgrades to perform well. You can get the old style Octo NW200 for around that price from the same company, and with a little work (read: mods) it can pull 35-40scfh. I have not personally run a NW200 in 7" of water...but I think it should do fine.

I thought about that. My set-up has already become more complicated than I really want it. Playing with the baffles in my sump would just add to it.

I'll just keep looking.

i would raise the baffle a bit so i can have a great performing skimmer than find a skimmer that works moderate ...

actually you can look into some recirculating skimemers and you wont have to worry about the baffle anymore

Anybody use the BM160? is this there largest skimmer? first time on this site seems like a great skimmer any help will be apprecieted

I'm curious if anyone has any fluctuations with the water level in the skimmer neck.

I have mine sitting my sump with a constant water level, but the water in the neck fluctuates.

I've been using a BM-150 with an aquabee pump for the last 2 months now, and it's been working great in 7" of water. I used the outlet adjustment on the blue outlet tube to adjust the water level in the skimmer.

But over the last 3 days have had a problem, wonder if anyone is able to help...

I've just started getting micro-bubbles in the sump, when there were none before. Also, from skimming dry, the skimmer went to skimming wet and filled up the collection cup within the night.

Any ideas what could have happened? The pump seems to be working fine and it's bubbling ok...

Well, I'm not quite ready to give up on this skimmer yet. Now I don't have a lot of experience with needle-wheel skimmers, but there has to be a way to do something to this rig (BM100) so that it works optimally in 7" of water.

What about the riser piping? On the Octo NW150, don't you move the height of the riser pipe to adjust for the water height in your sump? Couldn't the same be done with the BM100?

Any ideas?

Anyone?

I think someone's already mentioned it earlier as well, turn the big blue tube to decrease the water outflow, and thus increase the water level in the sump... That'll bring the water level up to the red ring despite the sump water level remaining at 7"

Chris at NuOcean just told me that very same thing about the blue tube in an email.

If I can't come up with the extra cash for the BM160, which might even be too big for me, I'll probably buy the BM100 and try to make it work.

Hello,

Just received my BM 155. The pump is a Aquabee 2000. It works very well. Some pics :

*edit* I meant water level inside the body of the skimmer, not in the sump. Fingers moving faster than the mind...

But that's how I got my BM-150 working in 7" of water.

Currently I am running a deltec mc500. And was wondering if you guys think the switch to a BM-100 or BM-150 would be an improvement. And if so which one would be better suited to my tank.

Tank is 45g w/ refugium (barebottom with live rock) and about 55lbs of LR. Phosban reactor with GFO and carbon. 90% sps barebottom in the main display(and i mean PACKED full of colonies) Currently I am getting half a cup per week of skimmate from the mc500. Which I think is not what it should be

My tank has 2 tangs 2 wrasses 2 clownfish, a pygmy angel, lawnmower blenny, circus goby, and a baby scorpionfish. And I feed flake 4-5 times per day with the occasional hikari cube here and there throughout the week. Along with cyclopeeze and daphnia.

BTW......MY SUMP LEVEL IS 11-12"
