Cully's 120 build

Christy's red hot blue glue is an all in one - it's what I prefer from flex pipe, though last time I had to order it on line

google a bit - I believe Oaty's rain-n-shine (blue one) is also good for flex PVC (something about higher solids?) - check the label, pretty sure that it is also a primer and glue in one.

Going on memory from a few years back - I thought it had to do with (1) glue flexibility (2) higher solids filling the ridges on the spa-flex (3) and the traditional primer causing damage to the flex pipe reducing bonding.

post back when you are done researching :)

just ran a quick check on the headloss calculator, baseline of one 90 compared to 10 90s or 45s (not a perfect comparison, but you get the idea):

Quit One 3000 5 ft up, 5 feet over, 1 entry, 1 exit, 1 1/4" pipe

(1) 90 - 520GPH
(10) 90 - 504GPH delta of 16GPH
(10) 45s - 512GPH delta of 18GPH

90s VS 45s - 2GPH

not a difference you would notice. Pipe diameter is a different story, that can make a huge difference & is compounded with the bends:

same thing with 3/4" pipe:

(1) 90 - 436GPH
(10) 90 - 358GPH delta of 68GPH
(10) 45s - 388GPH delta of 38GPH

90s VS 45s - 30GPH

Cully -

one of my friends just ran his waveline 6000 for the first time today and is impressed - tons of flow, quiet. sounds awesome!

I'm looking forward to feeling the low setting on these - I can't find a spec for the low flow rate.

I honestly think I'm just going to drill another hole top right and run the pump straight up 5' through spa flex or PVC with 2 or 3 45s. Then splitting into 2 loclines. The vortechs will get it rocking plenty internally.

Ok! Let's fire this piece up!!!!

Rehabbed the RO/DI with new membrane & filters. Chiseled the mineral buildup out of the salt mixing vat and cleaned the fresh water vat. Got some equipment yet to aquire. Gotta figure out the equipment I've got...

Plumbing is done, waiting in my custom sock holder from Avast Marine. Otherwise, tank is in it's final resting place. Going to filler up and start cycling my recycled dry rock. Getting the innoculum from Brandon/oneradtek202. Doing a fishless cycle by dosing ammonia. May try Night Out denitrifying bottled Bactria, but I'm not in a rush just yet with more equipment yet to come.

Be nice just to hear the tinkling waters again.

Great looking build so far Cully! I'm the resident FNG here and I can't pm yet, so I was wondering if you went through, or would recommend ABC for tank/ equipment purchases? Also can you tell me a little more about your stand? I really like the look of it!

FNG...haha, excellent.

I'm the wrong guy to ask for an unbiased opinion on ABC Reefs. Tim has been a buddy of mine since before it existed. I was there the night they scoped out the location for the store. I helped move them in and set up tanks.

I have been buying and trading corals with Jeremy for a long time too. Way before he joined the ABC team.

Bob has been "a God send", according to a very tough to please guy I know who has ABC service his system.

My stand is built by joeswoodworks, a member here. Also a reef keeper. This current stand is the nicest I've seen anywhere. Bar none. Top quality furniture grade construction. Great guy to deal with. I believe he is working with ABC regarding custom jobs.

All that said, I pay retail, not on the staff from them. I'm just a big believer in what they are all about.

For a long time, guys like me had to drive to Rochester for trustworthy, quality goods and livestock. Having ABC at the nexus of Syracuse reef keeping is a big upgrade to the hobby in the past 5 years. Easy to take for granted.

Not sure if that helps, feel free to ask any questions you like.

Spot on what Cully is saying. When I first started out ABC was there to help every step of the way. They are about an hour drive for me one way and I am more then happy to make that drive every time.

When it came time for my stocking list I let Dave and Tim know what fish I wanted ahead of time and they even let me know when and more importantly what order to add them to the tank. Big thumbs up. They have even special ordered me fish and everyone of them has been fat healthy and eating BEFORE taking them home. My favorite was a CBB that they fed right at the store for me to see. He is the one in my Avatar.

I also have special ordered equipment thru them and have been extremely happy. In this day and age every little bit of savings helps in this expensive hobby. Dave and Tim have matched prices for me on a couple of occasions. Nice to see but I don't expect that every time because they have to make a living as well or the store won't stay in business long.

So believe you me Cully I for one will NEVER take them for granted driving 1 hour each way. Just hoping that some day they open another down this way in Binghamton or even Cortland ;)

Sorry to get sidetracked on your thread bud. The build is coming along nicely :)

Jeremy needs to copy that glowing review and post it in the store!! Lmao..

I'm with Mark. I can add this. I've been keeping aquariums (fresh and marine) on and off for going on 30yrs. ABC is the best store bar none that I've ever had the pleasure of doing buisness with!

I wasn't in the military, but I have seen "Platoon". FNG is a (watered down) Friggin' New Guy.

Getting a seeder rock from Brandon today. Waters going in today. This is a tad premature, but it'll give me time to finalize some hardware set up while it cycles.

She's adorable! Mine is currently riding her new princess bike around the house. It blows bubbles.

Happiness is a 4 year old with a bubble blowing princess bike.

True! Or in our case, the cardboard box the toys came in. Spend $100's and their favorite toy is invariably a box or a $3 stocking stuffer Hello Kitty flashlight.

That's it for today I guess. The RO output is the limiting factor.

Have to do some unglamorous behind the scenes work.
