DanW's 187 SPS Dominated Reef Journal

Hey Michael. Yeah last time I think it was the ECC Hybrid that flipped over and eventually died. The berghias did a fantastic job they got all but one which was near where my clowns nest. The clowns probably didn't let them get close; I never saw them after they finished their job so I couldn't pull them out. And regarding the BK, fantastic skimmer and I highly recommend it but yes, they are ^$. Have you gotten your tank straightened out yet? Are your SPS doing OK?

At least this time your chalice just got stung, it will heal up soon. I'm glad the berghias did their job, did they eat all the aiptasia? If they ate them all then they probably came out during the day to look for food and your wrasses probably ate them. :( I have seen that happend in my main tank after they wipped out all my aiptasia, I couldn't get them all out and I found a big one that was pure white hungry come out during the time when my lights where on. That one didn't make it, starved to death(poor thing). Tried to get them all out to another tank with food. I'm gonna have to hold off on a BK till the future if I upgrade to a tank like yours :). I finally got my tank straightened, wand got the calcium reactor adjusted. Lost a couple of mini colonies and frags, but yours are some strong frags that pulled through the hard times. Heres a couple of pics.

Have the OT and watermellon on the camera still.

How is your tank doing now?

So Michael did all the suff you got from me survive? Send me a PM and let me know what you got and what you lost. I'll put together a tank recovery pack for you.

Thank you for the generious off, but I will not need Amy because you have some super frags that pulled through and is all encrusted. The PL and watermellon gave me a scare though, because they browned out but the held on and are now doing good. Can't wait till my PL starts to have all the polyps out during light hours like how yours was, they come out at night all the time. Is there something special I need to do to have their polyps out during the light hours? Thank again Dan.

Man I have no idea what I'm doing but the PL polyps have always been fully extended for me for as long as I can remember. The offer stands whenever you're ready for or need some more frags. Responded to your a PM.

I need one!
No problem. A while back I dropped a small piece of rock on the colony and broke it almost exactly in half so I can make a few of frags...stop by and grab a frag anytime. :spin2:

Dan, this is an AWESOME cyphastrea! What's the name of it..? I'd be interested in a piece like this! I like cyphastreas but haven't seen any branching ones... lately anyway.

Let me know when you can,

Thanks
Dave it's the Tyree Cyphastrea decadia and I've had it for a very long time. A slow grower for me, are you planning to come back to So. Cali anytime soon? CFM perhaps?

Seeing how the weather so nice, maybe I'll take a bike ride over :).

Your Cyphastrea decadia is awesome as always Dan! Mine has to be the slowest grower in my tank. How long did it take for yours to grow that large?

Thanks Ramzy and you're right, they grow slow. I acquired my piece back in February 2008. The other half of the colony (that I accidently broke off) is about the same size. This half is beginning to battle a sunset monti at it's base for space.

Dan, thanks for the hospitality. The kids had a great time and your tank looks great. Now all you have to do is stop spending all the $$$ on equipment, buy a decent tripod, and stop using that rickety old thing

Here are some of the shots I took yesterday. Not bad considering they are all freehand.
