DIY Stands Template and Calculator

I'm not sure why the pics are not posting. I copied the links from my instagram and pasted them. Suggestions?

Do not know but I would like to see them.. on my side it says link broken.. Might have to move them to like photobucket or another photo site.

Okay, so I've built my stand, sump, ATO container, power distribution control center and am about 95% done with the canopy (needs final trim work). I wanted a big stand with a LOT of room. Tired of fighting to work in the tank, feed the tank, clean the sump, fill the ATO etc, etc, etc. I'm really, REALLY glad we have a 10' ceiling in the room the tank is going in LOL!I hope to have the tank running before Oct.

Let's try this again. Progression of the build. Obviously I didn't take all of the pics I probably should have, but it gets the idea across.

What are you guys using for the skin of the stand? My stands getting alittle bulky..

can anyone tell me if its okay with my following build

210 gallon
top 4x6 with 2x4 all 4 corner supports. do i need another 2x4 middle support?

I would like to add a frag tank and a refugium to my current set up. To save space it would like to make a stand that will hold both new tanks. I would like to feed water to the frag tank from my existing sump and then allow gravity to bring water to the refugium and then back to sump. The refugium would need to be elevated to allow gravity to return water back to the sump. The frag tank is 36×18 and the refugium is going to be a standard 29, 30×12x18. How should I go about constructing a stand that would allow me to do this.

Best,
Roland

Well almost done with my latest stand...
Some molding yet and I need to steel wool the top and use swirl remover and wax.

If I take out the central upright can I strengthen the cabinet from with the wood frame only on front?
I think to use wood 4x1'6/8 (in mm 100x45) U
Is the wood 4" x1" 6/8 strong enough for 3 ft lenght tank?

Here is the wood frame what I wanna do to replace the central upright on front of the cabinet ( only front frame will be)

That looks shockingly familiar..... Good job.

Does it?.. LOL

Thank you.

Yea you and me had the same idea and why reinvent the wheel..

As I was drawing it in auto cad originally I realized I was drawing pretty much your stand. .

There are only so many ways to make a stand anyway. Either skin in hard wood, boards or plywood.

But yea your stand was my inspiration but you knew that. After looking at hundreds of stands yours had pretty much everything I wanted in my idea. I wanted to only make one stand for any size tank if I ever upgrade, I wanted table top, side doors, over sized stand. What is funny is I am also starting with a 90 gallon.

The only real difference could have been add a third door in front but the panels on the side made it look better and gave it the look I really wanted, I wanted that cottage/Caribbean/nautical look to it .

Shaker doors and panels are easier to make plus I love the look of them.. I wonder if I had not seen yours how much it still would have looked like it does.

But also thanks for your help in this thread and pm...

You need to make sure the new support is as tight as possible to the point of needing to be hammered in to take the load off the upright. The size board you describe should be fine but I would need more information on the overall construction of the stand before I would bee comfortable recommending what you suggest.

Thinking about building a massive 12 ft stand to house a 125 gallon fowlr and a 75 gallon reef on top while housing a 40 gallon fuge on a mini stand within the stand, a 75 gallon sump, ato reservoir, and external pump.

All tanks are the same widths (18in), so I'm thinking the basic template will work. The stand will be higher than normal (45 - 50 inches, allowing the rim of the bottom teir 40 to sit at a higher level then the bottom teir 75. This way gravity can drain the overflow over to the 75 in case of a power outage.

Now my question.

Can I use 2x8 for the top frame? Or do i need 2x10 to have an unsupported span of 6 ft?

Id like for there to be no support legs under either of the top tanks, except for the legs supporting the corners, so i can slide the 75 gallon sump and 40 gallon out and do maintenance.

Plan on using 2x4 everywhere else.

Here are my cabinets scheme

Front and back view . Front and back frames are the same sizes, just only a different that on front frame uprights are not in one line.

Can I take out front middle upright?
What is a better way to do a new support for a top of cabinet?
