Eddie:
No fuge 4 sure.
The previuos design its IMHO very good but for my skimmer It would expose the venturi of the BK to some large detritus and perhaps clog the pump thus causing me some headaches.
I will not be using socks or any high maintenance to the sump besides a detritus suction once in a while thus the second design has worked very well in the past and must likely be the one.

Gasman, I am enjoying reading the progress of your setup. I changed out my sump a couple of months ago. Manny built the unit for me and I really like the new design. I have the use of a tray to hold carbon and/or filter pads. I reduce the size of the refug, but the protien skimmer area is larger to fit my Octopus Pro 250. I use rocks and plants only, no mud.
Your BK is a very good design, it will take up less space so you can play around with your sump chambers.
I made a filter sock holder to use when I am not on a business trip. I have 8 socks that I purchased a year ago and I don't want to waste them. Once I have use them up, I will go with filter pads.

Manny,
Things are looking great. I like your stand, very sharp workmanship. I can't wait to see it up and running. Keep the pictures coming as new toys and progress is made.

Your crazy for not putting a refugium in your sump.Since your so against water changes the plant would help you from getting toxic levels of metal built up which has been linked to old tank syndrome. Also the refugium would help with pod populations as well as phytoplankton production. Also dont get me started on the mud.One day you need to come look at my tank at the house and see what the true color potential of acros can be like with one. Also the same corals you bought from me I got as well and you can see the crazy growth in my tank and I only run the skimmer half the time.Manny not one acro had died on me period. Not one.
