gasman's059 new build!

Thx buddy!
I may very well use that design and use the skimmer in the second chamber.
BTW if u can get that attachment(2 posts above) from d democrat(aka Rcastells)
see if u can sketch that one for me- if its not to much trouble so I can use them to get with my sump builder for the job.

Much better sketching than me!

The basics of the sump are the same in terms of lenght height and width , but in that excel model the chambers do change to account for the BK skimmer venturi.

OK this is the ticket just gota get with the builder and done.
Should be able to have my tank up and running in a couple of weeks.
Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Manny- Why this design instead of Young Frankys?

No Fuge? I know you guys dont believe in their nutrient exportation capabilities (including Roger) but all agree with the micro fauna breeding benefits.

Sorry for questions, but im planning an upgrade myself ;and gathering as much info from the "pros" as possible.

Eddie:

No fuge 4 sure.
The previuos design its IMHO very good but for my skimmer It would expose the venturi of the BK to some large detritus and perhaps clog the pump thus causing me some headaches.

I will not be using socks or any high maintenance to the sump besides a detritus suction once in a while thus the second design has worked very well in the past and must likely be the one.

OK got the detritus/ second chamber idea, makes sense. But...., and im only playing devils advocate here (which i love to do), why no fuge?

Eddie no reason for a fuge. If I do i have a 40 gall that may very well become a fuge or frag tank separate from this sump.

The size of the fuge would be only for pods not for nutrirent export.

Good to see a thread for a tank setup...

Good to see a thread for a tank setup...

Gasman, I am enjoying reading the progress of your setup. I changed out my sump a couple of months ago. Manny built the unit for me and I really like the new design. I have the use of a tray to hold carbon and/or filter pads. I reduce the size of the refug, but the protien skimmer area is larger to fit my Octopus Pro 250. I use rocks and plants only, no mud.

Your BK is a very good design, it will take up less space so you can play around with your sump chambers.

I made a filter sock holder to use when I am not on a business trip. I have 8 socks that I purchased a year ago and I don't want to waste them. Once I have use them up, I will go with filter pads.

What are the dimensions of the sump?

Manny,
Things are looking great. I like your stand, very sharp workmanship :). I can't wait to see it up and running. Keep the pictures coming as new toys and progress is made.

Hey hey I'm glad u made it over- slowly but surely things are progressing like I want them.;)

Your crazy for not putting a refugium in your sump.Since your so against water changes the plant would help you from getting toxic levels of metal built up which has been linked to old tank syndrome. Also the refugium would help with pod populations as well as phytoplankton production. Also dont get me started on the mud.One day you need to come look at my tank at the house and see what the true color potential of acros can be like with one. Also the same corals you bought from me I got as well and you can see the crazy growth in my tank and I only run the skimmer half the time.Manny not one acro had died on me period. Not one.

LOL Robert nomud is dirty and no one knows what's really in it, its voodo. J/K

As far as the fuge no reason( for nutrient export) since a denitrifier will take care of the rest.

The potentila of acros is mostly dependent on husbandry and not MUD LMAO.

I will plum a 30 inline with the system that will be used for pods and so forth and perhaps one day I'll throw some of that dirty stuff that u want me to use so badly.

BTW nice to talk to u since everytime i swing by the shop u are out and about making mula, to pay for them diapers .:D
