Hentz 60 SPS Dominant Tank

very nice setup!

What all are you running for taking out the shi* haha? Biopellets? ATS? just skimmer?

Thank you sir!

Well if you'd skim through the thread or even look at my signature, you'd see I'm running ZEOvit :p

I'm running a Bubble Magnus Curve 5 skimmer right now. It used to skim like crazy, although, ever since moving to my Trigger Emerald 26 sump, it's just not skimming like it used too. Not sure if its water level or what! So I'll be adding some salt water to the tank sometime this week since I can easily raise the baffles in the sump. Hopefully it's just an issue with height of the skimmer and not the skimmer itself!

I read through the whole thread, I just did not know anything about ZEO. I thought that was more to supplement growth in the SPS and not to control phosphates and nitrates, guess I have more learning to do haha.

Ah yeah! So to break it down simply, ZEOvit uses a special reactor that allows you to "shake" the stones. These stones grow bacteria that decrease Phosphates and Nitrates, creating an ultra low nutrient system in your tank. This does cause your corals to go pale because at this point they're starved. Though by adding their supplements you feed the bacteria on the stones which create "mulm" that you shake off and it feeds the corals. You also add other supplements that allows you to essentially adjust your corals color. With this method you achieve a bright pastel color in acros, hence why some of my acros are bright and not dark colored.

aww okay, ill have to do some more research on this.

Thanks!!

You never really realize how much your corals grow since you look at them everyday. You don't realize how small they were at one point! Here's my Red Dragon Acropora growth progression! It's first day in the tank until now.

Looking good. I love doing side-by-side pictures over time like that. My problem is that my corals don't have anywhere to grow, so I can count growth rate by coral mortality (how much it's killing through touching or shading other corals). Thanks for sharing the pics, I know they take a bit of legwork to pull together.

have you thought of putting some emerald crabs to help with the bubble algae? i'm battling it myself, i use to have 1 very large one in there that did great, then he got to a point where he started eating the tip of my acros... so booted him out and put 4 small ones, so far no luck... i freaking hate bubble algae. manually removing it only helps so much then right back...

Was in San Diego for the week babysitting my girlfriends cousins. Figured on the way home we will do a quick stop at Aqua SD! Really cool store. SO many acros! Much much better selection than my LFS in Vegas.
Picked up a beautiful Rainbow Mille Colony!

Quite a big change;

I am selling my Hydra 26 HD's and going back to T5. This time I'll be running an ATI 6x39 Sunpower. Should be here either tomorrow or saturday!

I've got nothing but great things to say about the Hydra 26's and I wish I didn't have to sell them.. Though as I am trying to increase my intensity, my crappy internet connection on the third floor of my house just doesn't connect well. My Apex, Hydras, and PC often disconnect. Not really able to change the router (not my house) so I've decided to part ways with them and go with something simple I can plug and play.

Excited to see what colors the T5 bring out!

Another update;
I went to San Diego for 4 days. My roommate dosed my ZEOvit perfectly but my corals seemed unhappy.. I tested the water and saw my Alk was 5.3! So I upped my dosage on the doser thinking I was consuming way more Alk than I realized... Until I realized my doser wasn't even dosing the Alk... So I had to feed it back through and its currently back online. I spent the past 2 days very slowly bringing it back up to 7.0. I have lost my Pink Lemonade colony unfortunately. Everything else seems decent. Love coming home to that with an acropora colony I just purchased.... >:|

Good move on going back to T5. I've always said "LED can grow good looking coral, but T5 (and/or MH) will grow better looking coral". I think you'll love it! Maybe consider getting some Reefbrite strips for added color pop and intensity? Looking forward to seeing how the tank does under the new light!

Got my T5 in today!

ATI 6x39 SunPower. I'm so happy I did. Within two hours my Millepora's had polyps that I didn't see with my LED's. Not bashing on them by any means, I just wasn't able to find the "sweet spot" due to internet connection problems.

So on to plug-and-play with no WIFI to adjust settings.. Just a timer on my APEX :D

Running bulbs as:

Thanks guys! I'm excited to see what it gives! I may or may not replace a Coral + with a Purple Plus. I do feel the tank is a bit two blue/washed out. Could just be my corals though lol. I'll give it a few weeks and see how my tank does

That red dragon is looking awesome! Excellent color. I think you will really like t5s. As SkullV mentioned, reefbrite strips are a great addition. I recently added an XHO to my ATi unit and love the look!

Moved some frags onto the rocks, moved some frags to some better plugs for grow out for people who wanted them.

Tank is doing great. Just dosed Dr. G's SPS MAX and had insane SPS polyps! Also added three Chromis just to add to the bio load and increase waste for the corals.
