How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

Aspasia... I'm doing an experiment (ok, I'm to lazy to dump the bucket) No flow, no top off, no feeding and no light. Anyone wanna guess how long they live. Its sitting at almost a month now.

In the event of nuclear apocalypse, cockroaches will colonize the land... and aiptasia will colonize the sea.

Hey khaosinc still following along, glad to see your doing better.

Just curious if you have figured out your water change system for this rig yet?
Was thinking you were going to do a constant water change set up.

*just got to thinking the salt would get expensive with this large of set up

aaaa man, i hate it when i come to the last page...your pics are great, love the starfish, and everthing else too. keep the camera you have, get more fish.

Given my luck with the few automations I have played with, I think for now the highest tech my tank will have is the automated timers on the lighting. Water changes take an entire bucket of salt. I've been a little lax on them, but as I don't have any high requirement corals, and only have like 15 (mostly small) fish in there I don't think the bioload requires it.

I still haven't had the spare money to get a big water tank that actually fits in my fish room, but it will come. I suppose the universe is trying to teach me patience with this build (not something I know much about). Still trying to catch up on hospital bills and the credit cards. I missed the summer overtime that was supposed to be paying for this fiasco.

glad to see your doing better i have been following this thread for a few months now looks great so far and about testing the kh there isn't a color chart its how many drops till it turns from blue to yellow well on my api test kit it is

that actually occured to me later after I made the post. I was trying to do several of the tests from memory. My brain can be fuzzy sometimes. I need to figure out which test kits I have that haven't been kicking around forever and post up and see if I can get someone to scan some instructions...

and I need to stop playing fish life on facebook. I don't even have an account on facebook, I just use my girlfriends... shes level 32 already.

well i just found this thread about a weekago, its taken me this whole time to read it all, very insipireing, keep up the good work and hope your recovery is going well

welcome aboard.

I actually hoped I would have a more exciting update, as I actually got all the panals sealed and was waiting for the paint to dry. Decieded I should finally get around to insulating the fish room. Pulled out the couch and found a moldy mess. Sigh. Hopefully a coat of killz will get me through the winter...

working on the hood..

actually caught the goby out. He's buddied up with a scarlet shrimp I think? Litterally the shrimp moved from its cave 1/2 way across the tank to hang out with the goby

and my mystery anemone is back out. lousy pic... its almost 4' back in my tank

Mold is very nasty stuff - don't just cover it up, kill it with bleach or something. Even if you're not normally sensitive to mold, it can cause persistent headaches and other ailments that you wouldn't know are caused by the mold.

Nip it in the but - for your long term health. I think you've had enough health issues :)

long term, that whole wall will come out and get redone. Killz is a product designed to kill mildew and mold as well as cover up the stains. I just need 1 good day of not raining... LOL

I have 2 green things that look like that red nem you have there. They came in on some live rock but I thought they were just zoas with bubble tentacles. I wish i could get a pic but they're too small and my camera sucks.

Tank is still awesome Khaos!

Never use bleach to kill mold if you mix the solution wrong then it can either make it worse or do nothing at all. Most people think the more bleach the better and that is wrong. the correct mix is 1/2 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water. This will not penetate porus materials and kill the spores. Killz is the correct thing to use.
