If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Guess i should probably describe my tank.... 40 gallon breeder, 20 long sump (250w halide) mixed reef for now but buying more sps frags.

Hello guys here.

I am interested in building an Arduino Controller, so I found this forum. I would like to have a very simple solution, just for steering 3 rows of LEDs. With a RTC.

I live in Germany, near Heidelberg, near to Karlsruhe in Baden Württemberg.
I would be glad for finished solutions, maybe with partlist and lib.
Thank you

Uwe

Back in the Game -- and overwhelmed!

Back in the Game -- and overwhelmed!

About 10 years ago I ran a 6g Tru-Vu nano (maybe really a pico?) with a couple of powerheads, a hang-on bak-pak skimmer and a JBJ PC fixture. It ran well (with a bit of hard work) for over three years until it crashed while I was on vacation and I let it go . . .

Now I've got the itch again to run a tank and I am utterly bewildered by the unbelievable change in the hobby (craft? science?) and what is available in the intervening years. I am eager to grow some corals (mostly softs, but possibly SPS down the line) and have a few fish (perhaps a couple of small clowns and an anemone or two). Do I go with:

- A cube (some awesome rigs on this site but at the end of the day they look a little like old TVs to me :hmm5:)?

-With a Nuvo 24 for the convenience of the AIO and the extra volume?

- A Nuvo 16 because of the more convenient size but risk associated with lower water volume?

- A 29H and a stand with sump?

If I go with a long tank (e.g. Nuvo24) vs. a cube-ish one (e.g. 29H or Nuvo 38) can I still use a pendant light (like the Kessil 350?) or do I need sonething more longitudinal as the pendant will spill round light and not give me full coverage in the tank?

Any thoughts, opinions, comments, suggestions would be much appreciated! What made you decide to go with the nano shape and size you did, and how did that affect your other equipment and livestock choices?

I am a bit of a gear geek, and so am excited about eventually getting into tank automation, etc., but for now I am just trying to figure out the optimal flexibility and configuration for my setup (e.g., reuse of equipment should I go bigger later, etc.).

Many thanks in advance for your time and wisdom --

T

Hello everyone! I'm Vince from Edmonton, Alberta. I've had many freshwater aquariums for over 10 years ranging from 3-50 gallon tanks. I am planning within the next few months to dive into the saltwater aquariums with a 60 gallon. Hopefully I can find of great information here! Thanks!

Hello everyone, my wife and I started our tank about 9 months ago. We have a 110g reef tank. We have had very good success so far with only losing 2 fish(both were jumpers) and only one coral. We are growing lps very well and have started propagating and trading some back to our lfs. All of that being said, we just wanted to say hello to everyone!!

My opinion is to go with as big a tank as you can, but if you have limitations, the all in ones look really good nowadays. Get whatever light turns you on:spin1:. Just make sure it is MODULAR...Same goes with other stuff if possible...

Hello

Hello

Thank you for the welcome. I am new to saltwater. Have had freshwater tanks all my life, but took the plunge with a biocube 14. I have been reading this forum for the past month and it has great info. Glad to have this kind of resource. My tank has been up for 5 weeks, and has already had it's share of problems.

Hello. I've had fowlr tanks since 99 and went full reef about a year ago. I have a mostly sps 220 tank with a few non-reef safe fish. Keeps it interesting:

Hi Forum,

I'm Melvin. Even though I just have a FOWLR tank I still joined this forum because of wealthy information it contains. Hopefully my tank slowly evolves into a reef tank.. but yeah I have a couple of fish that love corals.

Oldie but a Newbie...

Oldie but a Newbie...

Howdy from Texas.

I have a six year old saltwater (72G bowfront) with a single damsel and one or two scarlet hermits.

Crazy thing about this tank is that it all fell apart about five years ago when we decided to put some shells from the ocean directly in the tank. Everything but the abovementioned died.

Within a month or two one light died, then the other.. the single damsel and crab(s) lived on... and on... and on... and on...

I have done nothing but add treated water to replace evap over the last several years. No water changes, no cleaning (a light brush of the glass every now-and-again), no lights, no dosing, no testing... and my damsel keeps on... Who knows how many times that fish has gone weeks or more without food.. I seriously expected it to be dead a dozen times but I was wrong...

The tank sits near a window but doesn't get direct light. There's some algae growth, but not outa control.

So here I am ready to get this thing cleaned up and loaded with fish. I will need some new lights (I will try just adding new bulbs first) and I will need to get some test kits.

I'm looking forward to reading all of the great advice and opinions on this forum as I begin again...

Hello to all

Hello to all

I am from central mn area, fairly new to marine aquariums but have been looking into making the plunge for a long time with tons of research, I recently got my hand on a biocube 29 that was up and running for well over a year and I am incredibly happy with it have a few critters in the tank and all are doing great any tips on the biocube would be appreciated also anyone in the central mn area?

I am fairly new to RC. I had a tank setup about 2 years ago that was a disaster. I finally busted it out again, so I am working on getting it set up.

My tank is 24x20x20. BM NAC7 Skimmer. 15g Sump. Thats about all I have so far!
