In Memoriam
Clearwater Florida here.
About 10 years ago I ran a 6g Tru-Vu nano (maybe really a pico?) with a couple of powerheads, a hang-on bak-pak skimmer and a JBJ PC fixture. It ran well (with a bit of hard work) for over three years until it crashed while I was on vacation and I let it go . . .
Now I've got the itch again to run a tank and I am utterly bewildered by the unbelievable change in the hobby (craft? science?) and what is available in the intervening years. I am eager to grow some corals (mostly softs, but possibly SPS down the line) and have a few fish (perhaps a couple of small clowns and an anemone or two). Do I go with:
- A cube (some awesome rigs on this site but at the end of the day they look a little like old TVs to me :hmm5?
-With a Nuvo 24 for the convenience of the AIO and the extra volume?
- A Nuvo 16 because of the more convenient size but risk associated with lower water volume?
- A 29H and a stand with sump?
If I go with a long tank (e.g. Nuvo24) vs. a cube-ish one (e.g. 29H or Nuvo 38) can I still use a pendant light (like the Kessil 350?) or do I need sonething more longitudinal as the pendant will spill round light and not give me full coverage in the tank?
Any thoughts, opinions, comments, suggestions would be much appreciated! What made you decide to go with the nano shape and size you did, and how did that affect your other equipment and livestock choices?
I am a bit of a gear geek, and so am excited about eventually getting into tank automation, etc., but for now I am just trying to figure out the optimal flexibility and configuration for my setup (e.g., reuse of equipment should I go bigger later, etc.).
Many thanks in advance for your time and wisdom --
