Hi I'm new to Reef Central, but not that new to the hobby. Have a 40g reef setup thats been surviving now for 2.5 years. Lots of zoa's and just getting started with some SPS since a recent addition of a new light fixture. Looking forward to any tips and advice from anyone.

hi everyone, my name is brenda. I have had saltwater tanks in the past however my husband has always done the maintence. I always had the pleasure of enjoying the hobby without the work. but now its my turn . I just started a 75 saltwater reef tank. I put in the subtrate and the rocks already. I have a T-5 light with 8 bulbs and a remora (?) filter system. my test have been ok so far except for the amonia . rich, my husband, said that will change when I start to do more to the tank with the cleanup crew.I do not remember when to add the cleanup crew any one have any ideas? I am looking to make a very colorful tank. I do like alot of the corals but some are off limits for me. I must also be watching the amount I spend. I have budget about 100 a month for the hobby.thanks for all of your help!!

the ammonia will spike as it has then go to zero. The nitrates will then rise
when the ammonia and nitrate readings are zero you add your cleanup crew

Please take this only as a caution but with two yellow tangs and those damsels your tank could end up as an aggressive species only tank and limit your future choices of fish.
Damsels are wonderful colourful fish but IMO should be kept in a tank of their own.

And to further caution the orange spot is a 17 inch fish as an adult---a little too big for your tank

???????????????????????????????????? HELP![/QUOTE]

you need 50 meaningful posts and need to be a member for 90 days as well, thats why you cant post or buy stuff, the new software has been introduced and you may have slipped through the net previously as the mods were busy, they have now caught up and obviously realised you havent got the posts and time scale behind you yet, oh and welcome to the site.

My reef was started 3 years ago, when i saw in a shop in favolous reef aquarium. Now, I started to work from a few of months in that shop at weekends! My 50gal reef is, but i have buyed an other of 100gal for next set up. The reef is predominantly devoted to sps corals, my favorites are Acropora corals. The basin is managed by the Berlinese method the equipment is this: Deltec skimmer mce600, illumination Breblein Blv HQI 250W FC2, Calcium reactor Deltec pf600. All the system controlled by iks. I'm sorry for any mistakes Best regards!

Thanks. I'll just stick to pms and wait then. : )

I'm new to the scene and wanted to say hi. I just picked up a 55 gallon tank from a friend of mine yesterday. No real back ground in reef keeping so any advice would be greatly appreciated! I plan on getting some live rock this week after all the plumbing gets fitted and in a few weeks im gonna start off with some soft coral and a few fish. Probably clown fish since i heard they are pretty hearty.

Thanks!

wanting to upgrade 1 year old reef with live rock need advice

I am brand new to RF, absolutley addicted to TOTMs and find myself dreaming reef! I have a 55g a little over a year old. I want to max out this little system, before moving on to bigger projects. First thing, I need a much better protien skimmer! After reading about the tanks on the TOTMs I realize my bak pak has never really worked. Can someone advise me on what to get for my system that will really work, I want to have to clean that cup every other day! Thanks!

Hi all,
I'm Jeremy and I just got back into the hobby after taking a break for a year or so. I've kept fresh and saltwater tanks for several years now, but my new tank represents my first really serious attempt at reefing. I just bought a 28g MH JBJ cube, and I'm pretty excited to plan this thing out. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi.

Sounds great---you will have to post some pictures of your tanks

If you don't have a sump then and excellent hang on the back skimmer is the Remora C Pro

The metal halide JBJ is an excellent choice for a cube. You will be able to grow pretty well anything in that

Edit: I own page 49, WOOT!!!

hi all, im kevin, and im new here, and new to the saltwater world, but i have been running planted FW tanks for over 5 years now.i currently have a 55g, and a 29g. i am thinking of converting my 29g into a FOWLR tank to start off with since i currently am only using it as a hospital/Q tank(one of my poor chiclids got his tail bit off).
i would really like to keep the initial conversion as cheap as possible for now with an initial budget of $200. eventualy i am planning on putting a 10-15g sump under it, and upgrading the lighting from the standard 24" T-12 plant light i have. with that in mind, is there any recomendations you would have for a noob like me? what equipment over the freshwater stuff do i NEED to initialy complete a LR/LS cycle, and what are my priorities going on from there?
i know that SW is a completely different animal from FW, im just trying not to dive in too deep all at once. but i must admit that even my 55 is starting to look too small. damn this hobby is addicting!
sofar all of my tanks have been decorated like river bottoms, with natural rocks, driftwood, and real plants. i hate the fake plastic stuff, and i suspect, knowing me, my nano reef will be the same way.
