If you know where he sleep, you can catch him with a net as he sleep. You cannot trap will very well unless there is a food that he really like to eat.

Thanks Minh, I will watch him when my blue lights come on tonight but I'm pretty sure I know where he sleeps.

Hi Guys,

I posted this in the fish disease section but haven't had much of a response so thought I'd try here.

I've had a female Bipartitus for 3 weeks, purchased from a local reefer who had had her over 6 months.

She's been fine from day one up until two days ago where she has been acting very strangely.

This is what happens:

She swims in one location, either in a front corner, or front middle of my DT facing the glass.

Every 5 or so minutes, her face and parts of her body change to a light blue colour, this will last a few minutes and then will go back to the normal colour.

Then, every so often, maybe every 10 or 15 minutes, she'll flap her fins really fast, open her mouth wide and have a kind of convulsion where her whole body twitches violently. Then she goes back to the corner and just swims about there normally for a bit.

If I put food in the tank whilst she is doing this, she will leave the spot where she's at and get the food, but then she'll go back to the spot where she's acting strangely.

She still goes to sleep at the normal time and in the morning when she wakes up she seems to be ok for a few hours, but the last few hours of each day so far, she has exhibited this strange behaviour.

Has anyone seen or have any idea what might be going on with her ?

Thanks

Male Macropharyngodon kuiteri...

attachment.php

That is sick. I had no idea the male kuiteri was so pretty.

Just an update on my tiny black leopard... its been fine since I added it. I dont know that my established male has paid it any attention since the first day. I really thought it was going to be a problem but all is well. The male meleagris is still harassing the female bipart though. Nothing bad any more but it seems to be a normal thing now. I don't know why, he leaves all 3 of the others alone.

So, if a pair was to mate... are these guys egg layers?

I notice my male and female meleagris doing a dance every once in a while. Like once a month or so, maybe even less often. They kind of chase each other and splash at the top of the water side by side. Never see anything come out of either one though. I had 3 fantastic pics of them doing this, but I was moving them into a folder and falling asleep at the same time and accidentally deleted them before I moved them over into the other folder... Don't work on pics when your sleepy. Lol

This behavior sounds exactly like courtship/ spawning behavior. The female releases eggs, which are tiny, ad the male follows, which looks like chasing releasing sperm to fertilize the eggs. In the wild the eggs would be carried off in the current and the babies would spend close to a mo.th as pelagic larvae, but in an aquarium filtration pretty much ends the process right after spawning.

Well thats cool, there wouldn't be much hope for anything to live no matter how the process went in my tank. Its way too busy too many fish. I have noticed once in a while the female gets extremely fat too, but I haven't noticed if its around the same time as this happens. I would assume that is why she gets so fat though.

More than likely, posturing at his/her own reflection.

Agreed.

If your other fish swim over after this event and appear to be eating something, you know the answer! :)

Hi, I have a 140 gallon that just cycled last Thursday. I went with TBS for my rock and sand etc. I have part 1 of the package and should have part 2 sometime next week. The sand is straight from the Gulf near Tampa and is rougher than the other "live" sand in bags.

Just wondering if this would be ok for a leopard wrasse?

I have kept a potters wrasse in a reef for a year until I lost it due to lack of feeding. I bought the fish knowing nothing and he was already eating. Now I have a female kuteri in my reef who eats like a pig. The Kuteri can be a little jumpy though

Give it time; it will come around. My female M. bipartitus eats everything except pellets. She goes crazy for nori, fighting for her share with my Tansg and Foxface. My M. choati eats anything meaty, Mysis, plankton, scallops, etc. It will also eat 0.5mm pellets, but won't touch nori.

For Mysis, try PE and/or Hikari. If it won't eat one, try the other. Eventually it won't be picky at all :)

Thanks mang, you're right! All she needed was time to figure it out and get comfy. She's eating mysis and brine now. Lucky for me I have a store nearby in Compton (Ellis aquatics) where I also scored some live brine and a bottle of tisbe pods!

Glad to hear

Picked up a healthy looking Potters last week. Spent only a day buried. Still a bit skittish, and only eats nutramar Ova. Any suggestions on other foods to try beyond the obvious brine, mysis, etc.?

Mixing some mysis in with the nutramar did the trick. Cautiously optimistic given how well this fish made the trip.

Hey evolved what's up it's franky from CT remember me I got the lineatus from the raffle. Anyways just picked up a choati wrasse any tips on feeding or best survival. I know they are hard to keep any tips would be great.

Hey Franky; I do recall that.

There's others in this thread with more experience on that species than I, but I would definitely QT, treat for flukes, and certainly avoid copper. Tony Vargas has an article out there about a gradual transition on the photo-period for the species that's probably worth a read. As for food, one of the foods people often have the best success with for leopards at first are live blood or black worms. Best of luck!

Thanks bud I am feeding black worms now and he was treated with prazipro as preventive measures. So far he's going on day 5 just want to increase my odds of survival. Any links to that tony Vargas write up
