Hmmm, bottom right in this picture? Practically all the fish are in the bottom right in this picture

Maybe you mean this guy, the Red Sea Raccoon Butterfly?

Hi Peter, been following this thread for its duration. I'm in the process of setting up another tank (this ones a 10' x 30" x 30") and while I wait for my reinforcements to go in (main floor install) I've been considering my stocking list. I have several angels that will be going in (regal, majestic and several Centropyges) as well as my current butterflies (milliaris, pyramid, copperband).

I saw that you had a pelewensis / punctatofasciatus hybrid at one time that you gave up due to aggression. I loved the punctato I had but sadly lost while in QT from either uronema or vibrio. I was considering picking up a juvenile < 2" of both a pelewensis and punctato at the same time. Do you see problems with such a plan? My thinking is since they are often together in the wild and the pelewensis is reported to be more difficult to feed, the punctato could serve as companion/role model?

Any advice is appreciated.

Francis

I can only comment based on my experience. I had to remove the hybrid because it almost killed my paucifasciatus. In an 8' tank. I'd be worried that two such similar looking butterflies might eventually be aggressive to each other. And I don't see an extra 2 feet of tank being much help. YMMV.

Updates!!

Current stock list (items in red are changes since my last listing). Also, I don't plan to try to pair my regal with my yellow belly. The yellow belly will go into my reef.

Pentapodus emeryii (single remaining specimen killed the other two... plan to remove the remaining one)
Labroides dimidiatus
Thalassoma bifasciatum - removed
Chaetodontoplus meredithi
Pomacanthus asfur
Pomacanthus navarchus
Holacanthus tricolor
Pygoplites diacanthus
Centropyge loricula X 2 - added (used to reside in my reef)
Chaetodon collare
Chaetodon declivis
Chaetodon ephippium
Chaetodon falcula
Chaetodon fasciatus
Chaetodon flavirostris
Chaetodon mertensii
Chaetodon mitratus
Chaetodon paucifasciatus
Chaetodon pelewensis/punctatofasciatus hybrid - removed
Chaetodon rainfordi
Chaetodon semilarvatus
Chaetodon xanthurus - removed
Chelmon marginalis

Parachaetodon ocellatus x 2
Zanclus cornutus
Scarus quoyi
Amphiprion melanopus x 2 (noticing what appears to be pre-spawning behavior, mouthing an area on the side of the tank overflow)

Chrysiptera starcki x 2
Chrysiptera talboti x 2
Pomacentrus alleni x 3

Wonderful list! Must be a joy to sit back and watch the beauty :-)

Thanks for your advice on the punctato / pelewensis. Going to re-think this one. Seems like fish are like RC forum members, sometimes they seem to squabble for no apparent reason ;-)

Looking forward to future pics/updates

Francis

Thanks! Yes, it took a while to get to this point, but it really is nice to sit and watch the tank now.

Although, to be honest, I have to sit here for quite a while before the fish finally realize they aren't getting fed, and stop cramming themselves in one corner of the tank, begging for food

That's good, one of my favorite butterflies. I've always wanted to see one get to that dinner plate size that I've heard about them getting to in the wild.

Don't know why I haven't checked this thread out sooner; everything is stunning! I really love the selection of fish you have, and there are some beautiful species I'd love to have someday!

Thank you for the kind words, Alexa! How is your flavirostris doing? Mine's to the point of eating pellet finally!

She's doing great! I completely gave up on the pellets and just enjoy hand feeding her meaty foods these days! Such a cute fish.

That's great to hear! How big is it now? Mine's getting quite large at this point.

Honestly, my butterflies that eat pellets is just a byproduct of me having to throw pellets in there, to keep the parrot and MI fat.

Hmm I have no idea actually. I haven't measured. I'll be back to check next week haha. Part of the reason I downsized and set fish to the side for a while is that I am doing so much traveling! Hard to keep up.

yeah, I understand. My boss always looks at me funny when I cut my trips short so that I don't have to hire a tank sitter

Lovely collection you have, I'd like to add a few Butterflies but fear my Tangs would attack them. My current tank's too small anyway but I'm considering a 250-300g upgrade in the near future. I noticed on your list you have an Asfur to, what a sweet fish.

Thanks. I've always loved asfur angels... but $1000 back in the day was an impossibility. I'm happy to finally own one. Unfortunately he got some pretty bad HLLE from copper treatment a while back. It is healing albeit very slowly.
