My humble SPS journey - Shallow 80g

A fishy update, my tank has gone pretty wrasse dominate... ;)

Katherine's Fairy Wrasse - Absolutely a stunning species! When this wrasse flashes it seriously leaves me in awe.

Here's an updated photo of my sump area, yeah it's kind of a mess. That shelf the doser is on is supposed to be temporary, but I've been lazy.

Love the wrasse Josh! I'm heading in a very similar direction myself as well lol lots of wrasse for colour and movement and then quite a few reclusive and shy fish for intrigue :)

Man, if you call that sump a mess, please don't look at mine.. :)
I love the leopards. Recently got one of my one, after a stressful QT he's in the display :)

Man, your corals on the previous page are looking really good! You've got some beautiful pieces and I love the Katherine's wrasse! They're cool fish and as you said when they display they're just awesome

I really enjoy all of the wrasses myself, they're a lot of fun to watch. Mixing fairies and flashers together is especially fun to watch because they like to flash at each other and show off occasionally, too much testosterone in my tank I think. :lolspin:

Ok maybe it's not so bad, but it could be better! I have plans to organize it better, I just haven't implemented them. :D

Thanks, I've had the potters for 10 months now and the ornate for 4 months. Great fish, I'd love a female bipartitus but I'm 0/3 so far on those. Leopards are hard fish to get into a DT healthy that's for sure, I fear it'd be too late now as she'll probably just be scared constantly into the sand. I might try again though, we'll see.

Thanks Conor!

I didn't think I'd like the Katherine's as much as I do, I mean when I purchased it I really liked it, but it really blew me away once it settled in. In my system they really like to put on a show, I love watching them.

I'd call that a pretty tidy sump!
Great fish collection. Th potters wrasse is one of my all time favs, but they can be very hard getting past the fist few weeks. Nice job!
What is your scribbled rabbit fish eating?
I'd consider him for nuisance algae control but I'm always a little afraid of rabbit fish, if they go rogue..

Hi Josh,

If I'm not wrong you don't have a cover for your tank. Have you ever had any jump from any of your wrasses? I'd like to keep wrasse but I'd hate to put a mesh cover on the tank.

Thanks :), the potter's is going on 10 months now so I'll be very happy when it reaches its one year birthday in my system in september. :) My scribbled is very new to my DT, he's eating NLS pellets and Fish Frenzy, as far as nuisance algae goes I've seen him nip a lot but never in concentrated areas of my bryopsis which is why I really wanted to try him.

Yes, please clean up the mess. LOL. I agreed with Matt. Your sump is 1 of the tidiest sump I've ever seen!

Haha thanks, I guess I'm hard on myself. I have some things I want to do to make it better, just need to do them.

love those Wrasses!

got most of those you´ve got!!

Great minds, thanks. :D

I've got bad news for you. :( I do have one and I'm really not exaggerating when I say they enjoy jumping daily, they splash water at me when I'm on my computer which is next to the tank.

I have no wrasse at all Josh and you know why. That was like a horror slide show of fish to me buddy......... :p

Sump looks very cool mate, Dave who is making my new big sump was like

' how about some neon acrylic work '
' no Dave i want everything black '
' i could put a few LED's and... '
' stop it Dave, just make everything that's not glass black and that's the end of it mate '
' do you want frag racks '
' yep, black ones please Dave '
' i usually make the racks clear so you can see the tank bottom is clean of muck '
' black Dave '
' i suppose they'll be purple eventually anyway '
' yes they will be Dave, purple with BLACK underneath ! '

You have no idea what is involved in getting a black themed sump off Dave Josh, white is easy mate........

Haha sorry about that. :p

Dave must not like black very much, but I'm with you on the black frag racks, I really don't like the clear ones. Black and white are classic, the neon stuff is cool but a little much for me. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future, who knows, but I was adamant on a white sump this time.

Tank looking great! I like the colors on that (assumed) horrida. Please fix up that sump! If that's messy, I can't wait to see it cleaned up!

Man that sump is way too messy, how can you leave it like that?

See! :p I'll fix it don't worry.

I believe you're right on it being A. horrida, the trade name is ORA purple plasma. Thanks Mindy, I'll be sure to post photos in the future when I get some projects done. :)

I'm catching up Josh lol three wrasse down and four still to go haha

Lol it's a competition is it? :debi: I'll let you win, until I get more export and larger colonies to break up the tank more I may not add anymore fish. :p (probably will shhh lol)

It's only a competition once I get my future lennardi past a year :frog:
There's always more fish and coral to add, don't act like you'll be able to refrain :p

Freaking awesome wrasse collection Josh, I am so jealous! Man o man this tank is off the chain right now, your sump is cleaner than my display man :) Great job Josh!

Joshky, what an awesome build and tank. I am currently in the process of setting up a 110 gallon that is going to be a reef. What has helped you establish the reef you have now and the growth (which is amazing). Trying to learn the most I can before I start adding corals in the future. It seems that you have the science down and could lead me in the right direction on creating a healthy, growing reef.

Will now be tagging along the thread as well as this is one of my favorite tanks.
