My humble SPS journey - Shallow 80g

Well, Josh, you are a very conscientious keeper of your animals.
I'm sure it'll pull through and I can't wait to see it in the display.

Awesome to hear the nem is nearly ready to go into the tank!! Looking forward to seeing it in place :D

Dave said he's never seen one on the lists before and I've certainly never heard of anyone else owning one lol but that's not why I'm getting it, gives me a good amount of wank value though :lmao: let's not even go into price lol its double the cost of my previously most expensive fish! :eek1:

It's a fairly available wrasse to you guys though lol, still expensive and uncommon but they're certainly obtainable :) he's going to be my pride and joy though :D

Keep a look out for new pics on the anemone. :D

I bet it's a beauty, can't wait to see pics of it.

It's been a tough battle to get it back into my DT but I put it in earlier today, still acclimating it to the vortechs. I have some serious glass cleaning to do as I've been neglecting it with the anemone in treatment. Might have photos tonight but if not I'll definitely try this weekend, have a nice little surprise too. :)

Too excited not to take some pics, so here they are. The magnifica anemone has lost some of its color (on the tips really) due to the medication/stressful environment but should color back up I think.

Also bought some 1 1/4" Amphiprion bicinctus var. spotcinctus to live in the new addition, they've already started working on building up their immunity to it.

And to keep the post purple, how about a photo of the purple plasma?

That is a very nice magnifica! Keep that baby thriving as for the sps looking great I'm trying to start up some sps I've always been a nem guy so this is all new to me your thread is awesome keep up the awesome work!

Nice Josh! Love the base of the mag. Great color.
Nice clowns, too!

Thanks Matt! I wanted a nice blue base, buuuuut I'm not gonna say no to a nice African red! In love with these clowns, can't wait for them to get the black on them.

Thanks! As long as the infection is truly gone, I think I have all of my bases covered to give it a long and healthy life. I'm really happy with the tower I made for it, I actually repositioned the rock a bit to give it a flatter surface so it should be a good spot for a large mag/or multiple splits if I get so lucky. :)

That mag is beautiful. I've been wanting one for ever but had to settle on a rose nem. Oh well.

Yeah getting a healthy one or even getting one healthy, it's tough, bubble tips are great and generally easy to keep. Thanks! :)

Amazing pic josh:inlove:
Those little guys look really beautiful!
Has the magnifica moved?

Thanks Mike!

The mag has been moving a bit all over the structure I put it on. It got pretty close to some of the acros today which scared me, I was able to block the tentacles from touching thankfully; hopefully it'll setlle in soon once it finds out it has no where else to go... In my limited experience this one is moving more than it should, I don't know if that's a sign that it still may be sick or what, just need to keep a close eye on it I suppose.

Lovely tank, really like the nem and clowns as well

Thanks, appreciate it!

Very nice Magnifica and very nice tank.

Thank you Minh, and thank you for making it so myself and many others can get these animals healthy again.

That nem is gorgeous Josh and you have a pair of clowns that actually makes me a little jealous! And that's a big thing because clowns do absolutely nothing for me haha

I'm glad to hear it's settled nicely into the tank for you though :)

Thanks Dom. Clownfish in anemones are really hard to beat, their symbiotic relationship is worth the trouble. I wanted a really nice pair of onyx clowns but there's a good chance they wouldn't hold their black coloration very well with the anemone I chose, so I had to go with something different. I'm very happy with these guys, they're awesome. :)

Some more pics

Acro Island

Purple Plasma - Side angle isn't much to look at, but I'm sure with growth it'll be just as pretty as from the top down.

Wild "Superman" Acro - Starting to regain some color after browning out late July/early August. Quite a few acros had some issues but I had some personal matters that put my tank on the back burner a bit.

BC Ultimate Table - Browned out after being moved, yellow is slowly coming back but this one has never been amazing to look at from a frontal view. Maybe someday it'll be a stunning table in my tank.

Red Planet - This one broke in half when I did the reaquascape, I like the look of this much better than the way it was growing naturally so I'm ok with that. :)

Elegance - Still going strong, I actually like its new placement and I think when the acros grow out it'll be really pretty.

Sorry for all the non-acro related pics as of late, just don't have much to share in that regard. Once the new anemone settles in I'll work on getting some new top downs, as of right now I pretty much refuse to turn the flow off because when I turn it back on I'll have to reacclimate it to the flow... pretty annoying. :blown:

Nice elegance! I want an elegance. They die so often, though. How long have you had yours?
Back in the 90s they lived for years. Now, I find that only once in awhile do they live long term.
I have one in a client's tank that has thrived for 8 years but that's not the norm, I don't think.
I'd love th find a nice one to put on my sand bed.. Maybe my clowns would use it as a home

I bought the elegance late February so I wouldn't call it a success per se, but I'm optimistic since its made it this long. If I do end up losing it I'll be sure to document it, I know anything under a year really isn't much to brag about.

I think you'd have a good chance at your clowns using an elegance as a host, mine go back and forth between the elegance and magnifica but don't actually go in the elegance. They were both scoping the elegance out before I had the anemone in the DT so I still think its only a matter of time before they use both.

Thanks Matt. :)

Man you keep the tank so nice and clean! and those wrasse.. OH MY :inlove: the elegance definitely looks like it's happy mate :) It's strange how a long shipping time can make something nearly impossible to keep! They're almost hard to kill over here! And cost just a fraction of what you guys pay!

I must admit one day I would loovvveee to have a carpet of some kind and the day I do that is the day I get myself a pair of clowns lol because I'm not owning one of those sticky bast*ds without clown protection! :blown: I'd get myself a pair of gold maroons with black outlining on their bands, one of the most gorgeous pair of clowns I've seen come through... even is they are stupidly aggressive haha
I'd say you've chosen very very well with your pair! They're super unique and I've never seen anything like them!

I'm so jealous of your photo skills! Great setup and very informative. I never knew you need to hospitalize a nem till I came across your post! thank you!

I mean, I try to keep it clean but just like anyone I have my off days and let maintenance like that slide. It is really strange, I'm sure it has something to do with all the substandard conditions it has to go through to get to us in the states; long shipping times, sitting in nasty tanks with bad lighting and flow for who knows how long etc.. Usually aussie elegances are easier to keep, probably has something to do with the distributors caring for the animals they ship out? Maybe I'm off base here.

If you get a carpet, I'd go with a gigantea for sure. SO BEAUTIFUL. I almost considered one but then decided against it because they're fish eaters, magnifica's generally aren't so it's a much safer bet. I've heard of clowns luring fish into carpets so there's still some risk to carpets, but usually they're protective and shoo fish away. Maroons do have a more aggressive personality, I would never consider them personally because of it. Maybe in a larger tank.

Thanks Dom. :)

That's a nice compliment, appreciate it. :) Generally only Heteractis magnifica and Stichodactyla gigantea require treatment, but any anemone has the capability of getting an infection it can't fight off during shipping or any other high stress factor.
