I've been pretty lucky with my angels. I think the key is getting them when they're relatively small or juveniles and they haven't had the chance to learn any bad habits..

Very true, this has absolutely been my experience too. Even better if you can get them captive bred!

It's been a while since I've posted pics. My system has gone through some changes both good and bad. First the bad. After always struggling to keep my Alk above 8.0, one day my tank decided to hit above 15.0 dkh without adding anything. It's as though it hit a saturation point and now it's constantly high with any dosing or supplementing. It's actually been like this for over 2 months and is now finally slowly coming down. I just measured it this morning at 14.0 dkh which actually I'm very happy about because now it's measurable via my Salifert test kit. Another thing I'm thankful for is that I didn't lose any sps colonies during the alk spike. My Red Dragon and Pink Dragontail colonies did however start STN'ing from the base. It was very slow at first but as it creeped up the trunk of the colony, the STN started to be not so slow. I decided to hack up the colonies to save them. The good news was that I did save them, but the bad news is that instead of one ginormous colony, I have about 20 regular sized colonies of each.

Sweet healthy coral! I have the same pieces...my SSC is tiny because I just bought a frag at RAP...but my Red Planet looks similar in size and color. My Ice Fire is about 3" and really starting to take off.

Here's my poor Red Dragon, or what's left of it. This is the largest colony of the 20 other ones that I have.
