I found that Milk crates are great for things like elevate skimmers in large sumps

thats fantastic!!

may i ask why you have 2-90deg elbows after the ball valve on your skimmer. thats a lot of diverting which could reduce some flow/pressure. just thinking if you have a tee and 2-unions, you could re-do the plumbing and gain a little extra out of your skimmer. (just my thought of course)

also, in your last picture, you have 2 fittings on/after your gate valve. does that put backpressure on the reaction chamber and cause some fluxuation? i have seen a lot of people put tee's where there can be some kind of venting going on.

these are just observations.... i dont have this skimmer or one close to it in size so.....

(also, you have a blue screen on your intake for the skimmer, that looks real restrictive. they make basket strainers that people use on Closed loops that are more open, but still offer protection.)

Keep it up... i love the size of your tank.....
(what do i need to do to make my wife let me have one of those!!!)

The Reason for that can be answer by an installer on this town called Carl

only he knows what was going on there...The fact is that I purchased the skimmer from a store that was going out of business and the skimmer was like that. I've been lazy to call Raj at MRC to buy a new set of plumbing haha

The fittings after the gate valve have no impact whatsoever in the skimmer's performance and the idea was to redirect the flow to the outlets

Since this is the first stage of my filter system I prefer to be safe than sorry and while I'm pretty aware of the flow restriction the Hammer Head pump that drives this skimmers has had no issues.

Hey Paul,

Do you like the salt?

Gram per gram one of the best things I ever seen in the industry so far...

 ... this salt is awesome for sure! One thing that I've noticed was some residue on the bottom after mixing and is this normal? They're like little "black particles" ... normal or some weird deposits?

Paul

Hey Paul,

well I don't have those residuals. But could you have a pic for the people of Seachem they will be very interested...

This salt is controlled in small batches just like medication to ensure highest quality

Cheers!

Dear Ching,

Not at all perhaps the most difficult part is just the beginning when the Mangroves don't look that great

Beginning

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/?action=view&current=DSCN8646.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/DSCN8646.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

after 4 Months

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/?action=view&current=DSCN1698.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/DSCN1698.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Now after almost 2 years
<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/?action=view&current=DSC_1108.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/DSC_1108.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Frank. This is awesome.
Any tip to grow this Mangrove?

1- Strong light MH or T5 work very well

2- Misting the leaves with R/O water only twice a week

3- Pick up all the dead leaves as soon as they yellow out or fall

4- Offer them a shallow pan with only oolitic aragonite sand the reason for this is to make them grow slowly like a Bonsai I had bad experiences in very deep sand and the trees are taller than me now (I'm 6 ft)

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/?action=view&current=DSCN0040.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee463/Symphy68/How%20to%20make%20a%20Mangrove%20Refugium/DSCN0040.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

On Mangroves

On Mangroves

Almost forget the source of the mangroves matters as well the size

Hawaiians are the best

Is always better to start with the seed ( Propagule) rather than a Mangrove tree regardless of size or age.

Despite some controversy driven by lack of information and knowledge Mangroves are proven tremendous stabilizers of water quality when planted in quantity.

Lack of results or success in aquaria are often attributed to bad lighting and few mangroves for the task to remove nutrients from the water.

curious, why is there a line across the piece of glass? is that a centered line for lifting, or is there 2 pieces o glass butted together? (maybe one of the laminations??
