SkullV's 40 Breeder SPS Reef

Looking really good! I did something similar for flow in one tank a while back, it really helps in that dead spot under the gyre. Hmmm. That green flubber on the right is taking up valuable real estate that could be home to an acro island:D

Hahaha, yeah I know. I wish I had somewhere else to put it! I already have a "fuge" full of euphyllia! Ideally I would get another small tank going for my euphyllia, GSP, toadstool, and gorgonians.

Here's the Fuge:

I love the idea! That is way cool!

Thats Crazy! Id trade that to the LFS for credit toward sticks, but im nuts about the sticks. I have a flubber tank and it will stay that way until I either run out of room in the SPS tank or my ginormous long tentacle anemone dies. Then that tank may become SPS tank 2....

This is pretty cool, I have to admit. :)

You have a nice tank here, lots of potential, beautiful acros, fish, and nice photography. Thank you for sharing.

How have I missed this thread? Nice tank and pieces. Looks like both our tanks will be grown out at the same time. Trades coming in the future! :D

I love trades! The thread is pretty new, very easy to miss! At your recommendation I went ahead and swapped out one of my blue bulbs for a Coral+ I had sitting around (still need to get my hands on an AB special). Unfortunately I can't tell the difference, other than the fact that the tank does look a little bit dimmer. Will have to see how the coral responds. Can you guys tell a difference in color at all?

I can't from the pictures, no. The coral plus has enough blue to not change the color much at all. Are those 24 or 36" bulbs?

36" 39w bulbs. I'm going to try and get my hands on an aqua blue special this week too. I'm adding a bunch of LEDs so I can play with the spectrum and actinic moonrise as well.

It's too bad you are not closer. I have pretty much every bulb out there in the 39W variety including several ABS with only a few months wear on them

I have a buddy who has one but it's supposed to be picked up tomorrow. Not a big deal to order one though. Always good to have that stuff on hand anyway I suppose. I have to place an order for some test kits anyway.

Hey Ted, nice build and great photography.
Looking really good!
Love your collection of acros.
This will be good to watch grow out.

Thanks Matt! Hopefully my last shipment of SPS comes on Thursday next week. It was supposed to ship last Wednesday but my buddy who's shipping got the flu. I also happened to be at the LFS (yeah right) yesterday and picked up a nice Starburst cap. Now I can get rid of my plain Jane red cap that's wasting space.

Got a little frag pack in from my buddy in Chicago today. They have some coloring up to do after shipping, but I've had each of these pieces in the past and love them! Unfortunately, with these pieces and the two TCK pieces I have coming Saturday, my tank is full (until I can get rid of the flubber.....:eek2:)

Picked up a Starburst Cap since the plain jane red cap I had was boring

Pretty happy with how my GOW Acro (named by Jporter) is coloring up. It was very upset with me after moving it several times and breaking off several tips each of those times. Finally settled back in!

Spent a little time today splitting up my screen top into three sections as well. This lets me remove the center section easily whenever I want without having to move the light constantly. The Tek legs are nice for holding up the light, but a pain when you want to get into the tank with a full screen!

and of course a little FTS!

very nice tank.

how often do you siphon the sand and do water changes?

Also where do you get all these awesome frags??

Thanks! I siphon 100% of the sandbed weekly during my 6g water change. A surprising amount of detritus comes out each time. I also have very high flow in my 40br which is only possible because I went with Tropic Eden Reeflakes instead of a smaller grain sand.

The awesome frags come from all over, but a majority of them have come from friends back in Chicago.

what flow do you have in your tank?
When you have siphon 100% of your sandbed weekly, what do you mean by that? It looks very white, ive never seen a tank with sand that white over a long time haha

I have a Gyre 150 and an MP10 in my 40 breeder. Hopefully I'll be getting rid of the mp10 and addin a second 150 so I can have nice alternating flow and no dead spots on either side of the tank.

What I mean about siphoning the sand is actually going through every week with a gravel vac and sucking 100% (or as close as I can get with my rockwork) of the detritus out of the sand.
