Thanks for the heads up. I've actually had one end up in a power head too but it was an MP40. This guy would be hard pressed to make it through the grate on the gyre.

Can u post close ups of the tck pikachu? Fantastic looking specimen!

Sorry I haven't gotten the close ups yet. Very busy with work, but should have time tomorrow. Spent my free time tonight setting up and programming my second Gyre XF-150 with second Icecap Module for control.

I now have two Gyre XF150s mounted horizontally on opposite sides of the tank. They run in anti-sync at 45% in 30min intervals. It's insane how much crap got kicked up the first time the left side gyre (new) switched on. Anyone who says there are no dead spots in their tank with a single gyre is lying to you, but with two gyres, there are no dead spots at all, and the SPS are loving the nice strong indirect flow across the entire tank.

I did the same with my gyres. Not only do the corals love it but if you ever get some schooling fish, it's great watching them swim in one direction and then switch in unison when the gyres change directions.

Here she is. Starting to color back up now that the borb is gone and I can stop overfeeding:

The top of the coral and all new growth is coming in yellow. No red polyps though.

Heres another FTS now with both Gyres. As of tomorrow there should be nothing in the display but SPS, gorgonians, and my green star polyps. Ideally I'll find somewhere to put the GSP in a friends tank or something so I can get that out of there too:

Fantastic little guy. I see some green ... Is that new growth? Where did u pick it up?

Count me in the Gyre die-hards group! I love these pumps, their low visual impact and their ability to move water cant be beat!

Thanks! The green is older growth that used to be yellow but turned green with high nutrients (an assumption based on algae growth) over the last month. The new growth and tips are starting to turn yellow again so I'm hoping that continues! This piece, along with my other TCK pieces came directly from Dan at The Coral Kings.

For sure, I don't know about the "OMG I REPLACED EVERYTHING WITH ONE GYRE" crowd but the pair is fantastic! I have a set of rugged propellors coming for the newer one tomorrow. Can't wait to get them in!

Here's the bulb combo NOT to use (on its own). B+, AB Special, C+, B+. Super ugly yellow tank:

But here's the reason for that. Adding a second independent channel of LEDs. Had to make some brackets and do some cutting/drilling on the Rapid heat sinks, but I'm happy with the result. Waiting on some more connecting wires to wire it all up.

Final layout (all CREE, no optics). Each channel will be controlled individually by apex.

Let there be light! Will mount it today and hopefully take the PAR readings that I've been holding off on.

SkullV, loving the tank man!

Especially the Gyre's. I'm running similar dimensions. I just switched to the Gyre 150 and replaced my two MP40's. Really loving this powerhead. The flow kind of bugged my corals and I at first.. I wasn't crazy about it. But after seeing my corals respond incredible I completely am digging it. Though like you, I may invest in one more!

Another thing, what are you dosing and how much daily? In particular, Alk/Cal

If the fish were smaller and you couldn't see your powerheads, you wouldn't be able to tell if this tank was 150 gallons or 40 :P

Cheers man!

How are they maintenance wise and longevity wise though?

I just moved from Tunze 6105 Streams to MP40QD's for my 120.

Thanks!! I'm dosing about 8ml daily of Seachem Reef Fusion 1/2. It includes trace elements and magnesium. The Seachem product is very concentrated so it's about the equivalent of 16-20ml of the BRS product.

I haven't had them that long but this far I've cleaned them once each. If you maintain a clean tank where algae doesn't really grow on the blades they don't require a whole lot of maintenance. The new drive bushings are also a higher quality rubber so they should last longer. To get the kind of flow (not amount) I have in my tank now I would probably need 4x MP40.

In other news here is my new and improved "apex ready" DIY T5/LED hybrid! Very happy with the finished product. Can't wait to see how the corals color up under these. Hopefully I'll have some time to get some PAR readings tomorrow:

Sick light build. Looks like my setup except mine looked like it was built by a 2 yr old.

Following along as I am setting up a 40 breeder right now and hell your tank is awesome how could I not follow lol

Thanks guys! Got some par results with the new light. Running right around 500-550 along the top of the rockwork, 250-300 in the sand in the middle of the tank and 200 in the corners. Pretty happy with it.

Finally got my nutrient issue under control from several frozen feelings daily (RIP exploding Borb) as well. Things are starting to color back up and alk consumption has raised back up to the level where it was before the "frozen food fiesta".

Now I just need to figure out what to do about my T5 lighting. I'm not a huge fan of the AB special with my current LED combo. Maybe if I remove 2 of the whites and replace them with Royal blue it'll look better.

A horrible quality growth shot of the WWC SOTR Milli from 1/2016 to 5/2016 too. Has always beef at 450+ Par and has the great green and red coloration. A little blue coming in deep in the center but you can only see it top down unfortunately.

First off nice little tank! Can you elaborate on the "frozen food fiesta"? I currently use LRS frozen and have been very happy with it.

Oh, and your second photo isn't showing up. Had to copy and paste your link into a separate page to see it ;)

I had a borb that would ONLY eat frozen food and needed it several times daily to compete with the fat wrasses. I also fed LRS (fish only blend) but unfortunately there is still too much small stuff in that blend that none of the fish would eat. Thst left a bunch of uneaten food in the tank after every feeding. Just wasn't a good situation. I wish LRS would make something between the fish only and the chunky. Something with mostly all PE Mysis Sized pieces.

Thanks for the heads up on the second photo, from
My last post, here it is!
