So what happened to the site? Lost of sale threads!

Borchers

Reefer Who needs Help!!!
Just wondering what happened to the forum here? We used to have a ton of build threads, Q&A's, pictures, newbies, tank tours, rebuilds, heated fun time threads and more. Lately it's all sale threads here. Just food for thought.

I'm calling out

Tom Blevins, Tim Plaza, Mark Poletti, Anthony Wong, Chris Giboney, Jeff Jensen and the whole bunch of you for updates on your tanks, builds, pictures, old threads, debates and more to give this forum a kick start forward.

Tank is coming up on the 5 year mark in January. Fish are doing great. Majority of corals are doing well. Major changes to the system this year and will update in December.

Most of my posts are are on the ZEOvit international forum and since I'm the only one that does zeovit around here I pretty much only use MARS for local livestock or equipment. And I don't have a Facebook so no 916 for me.

I'm not really posting hobby related posts anymore. Kind of over being online so I just kill corals in private now. Cheers. :)

I have that one hidden on FB now too

But Dang you have a beautiful system with a ton of knowledge to share. To bad your moving away from it. Its sad to read that. :sad1:

I love the updates and pictures you have shown over the years Tim.

Just finished killing all my hard corals in my aquatic money pit this summer. Too depressing to post Buddy.

This hobby takes a toll on you after the years. That's why people take breaks or get out completely.

Jeff, text me this weekend.

These days more people have frag tanks then display tanks. That's symptomatic of the direction of the hobby. Then when people see you can't make steady income out of this (especially factoring in time) they quit. Very few people can stay in this. I've been doing this 30+ years but I get burned out and had to take a few breaks in there of several years. I'll be in it for life though and I'll never get a frag tank either.

True, about the frag tanks. What's crazy is that a lot of the newbies think this is the norm and haven't really seen a beautiful display tank or been through that planning/grow out aspect. Buying and selling small polyp QTY's as a "business" has changed the game to a boring and short term and easy one. I love looking at an OG's packed display that took years to grow in once they spent years figuring out how. That's where MARS came in. When I first heard of MARS I was inteminated, excited and clueless as to what this elite club was about and had to offer. It is packed with these OG reefers and I hope to see it keep pressing forward.

I got out completely 1.5 years ago... don't have the time now that I've got 2 babies. I still browse every now and then to see if there are any new advancements that make reefing easier. Some day I'll get back in...

I almost did when my 3rd was born 6 months ago, but I love it too much. My life. Would be missing something if I didn't have a reef tank :)

I let my tank go on autopilot for a couple of years also. I'm back now though and loading my tank with tasty morsels again hahaah

I got out 6 years ago but I'm back now and thanks to all these for sale threads I've got a pretty sweet little tank that someday (not soon enough) will be nice. And I have had the joy of sharing it with my kids (5 and 6 years old). They absolutely love the tank and I am overjoyed watching them.
