So what happened to the site? Lost of sale threads!

These days more people have frag tanks then display tanks. That's symptomatic of the direction of the hobby. Then when people see you can't make steady income out of this (especially factoring in time) they quit. Very few people can stay in this. I've been doing this 30+ years but I get burned out and had to take a few breaks in there of several years. I'll be in it for life though and I'll never get a frag tank either.

True story, I'm so tired of the name game. Had great visit with TFP today, restarting my collection with some oldies but goodies! Thx Tim!

How awesome to see a lot of names I haven't seen posted in a few years. I've been one to leave the hobby, only to come back with a new build and challenge.

Hi reef friends. I had to take a break to raise my 2 little boys a bit. I figure I'm another year out until I can get back in (I need sleep first). It was nice to take a little break, but I'm really missing the hobby now. I can't wait to get back in. I haven't been on the forums really for a while, but it seems like participation on them is down. I miss hanging out with all my reef people. Happy reefing.

It's been so long I haven't had a chance to remember how to load the pics yet lol one of the guys on our wine country site loaded one from before though.

Yes pictures!!! I'm so close my self. I just got the last peice yesterday to complete my build.

You are correct I have seen very few fully grown reef systems. Ones I've seen personally
Kevin McGowan, Tom Blevins, Ed Simmons, YourReef, DrDNA, Brian Prestwood, Pete Kelly, Ron (midtownstomp). Very short list here.

I'm still here.
Just about killed my back today upgrading my circ pump. I picked up a nice Octo Vario 6 DC pump at MACNA

I got a nice Bubble Magnus DC skimmer at MACNA too, installed that as soon as I got it home.

So far, seeing nice extension on my hair algae.

I can relate to some of the above posts about this hobby. In 2008 I started with a 14 gallon Biocube. Quickly outgrew that, along with a 75, and lastly a huge 150 gallon tank. The lure to grow corals overwhelmed my original desire to have a few beautiful fish adding beauty to my home. The corals bug I guess is like Pokemon, Gotta Catch Them All. With that we add SO much complication. Thousands of dollars in equipment, delicate chemical balances, and tanks that hardly have any fish. I played the game for about three years before I ran out of time and patience.

My new setup is going to be a keep it simple stupid setup. A stock 32 gallon Biocube LED. No additions. I plan on having a four or five fish, a robust clean-up crew, and then some simple corals. Some xenia, mushrooms, frog spawn, basic polyps, and that is about it.

I just finished my cycle, and will begin to slowly add fish and such. One advantage of having done this before is that I am in no rush. 'm going to take it nice and slow. It might be a month or more before I even add a fish. I want to make sure all is well and enjoy the tank at every stage as it matures. (Currently my single peppermint shrimp is the sole occupant, lol.)

I'll create a build thread later this week. Cheers!
