Thumbs up for Ozone!

Sorry to jump on this post after so much time, but I just got an enaly 300U ozone gererator and I have a milwaukee SMS510 ORP controller.
I was wondering how I hook these up and what I should turn the MV knob to on a 150 total gallon reef? The instructions on both units are terrible. There are 2 power sources that go to the controller. One is a 12vdc power adapter and the other has a plug in the back of it so it goes to the power outlet and I guess you plug in the ozone generator to the other side of it? What is the 12vdc power adapter for if it is already getting power from the other power source that also plugs in the wall. I know other people have asked similar questions, but I still don't understand it. Thank you in advance for reading this and potentially helping me out. I hope I made sense in what I wrote.

You have to plug in both plugs from the controller and the enaly into the socket on the cord you plugged in. I set mine to 420, and feel that is a good spot.

The probe slips quickly in accuracy so be sure to clean in weekly.

anyone seen the new pacific coast imports ozone units? They do 250mg adjustable output for less than $100. I own a LFS, and we just got a couple I havent tried them with a controller yet.

I decided to try out the ozone because the reading seemed to be constant at 199. I put carbon on the end of the return from my skimmer into my tank and I put it on top/inside my collection cup. I turned it on about an hour ago and the entire room smells like ozone. Am I putting the carbon in the wrong spot? I have a MRC skimmer and I unscrewed the top of the collection cup and put the bag of carbon over the main hole on top where the bubbles go and I put back on the top and screwed it in. It seems like the smell is still coming out of the top of the collection cup so I guess I put it in the wrong spot. Was I suppossed to put it on top of the lid and not inside it blocking the main entry of the cup?
Thanks,
Mike

I personally just turn it on right away, after cleaning but an hour should be fine if you would like to wait. My tank is only a 40 breeder but I do use the carbon on the output.

I use a euroreef and bought a black plasic basket and cut a hole in the bottom, then slide this over my output tube and put my bag of carbon in the basket.

you shouldnt block the skimmate from making a clear pass to the collection cup and should never put anything in the reaction chamber or riser tube of your skimmer.

Anyone know where I can find ozone proof air line fittings? I have my ozone tube Teed into my skimmer airline, but the plastic Tees I've been using become clogged and crumble after a month. I bought automotive vacuum tees thinking they would be stronger but they don't last.

Here is what I did to my collection cup to take care of the nasty smells.

This was before

This is what I had added to sit on top and hold carbon. I do not use carbon on the output of the skimmer and have seen absolutelly no ill affects from not using it. You can kind of see it, this is the best picture that I have of it.

Anyone know if you need to calibrate ORP probes? I am in the process of getting O3 and I want to plan appropriately.

Could some one post pics of their Red sea set ups?

Tx

How do I know if my ozonizer is working OK? I don't sense the "pool" smell anymore and the ORP didn't change after I plugged it (i shut it down a couple of months ago). The unit is a 1 year old Red Sea.

I know with my unit I need to take it apart and clean the air outlet port as it tends to clog and stop ozone from going thru.

But my unit is a sander and its older so it can be taken apart others may not .

Does anyone know if the Enaly ozone generators ever require cleaning? If so, what am I looking for when I open it up?

I was reading an Alber Thiel article that suggest the following:

Ozone production from an ozone generator can decrease by as much as 50% if an air drier is not used for the supply air. He suggests that maintaining the drier is a major PITA and needs constant daily or bi-daily cleanings. In view of this, he recommends getting and ozone generator that has 2x the capacity that is required (2mg/hr/gallon). He also recommends that when used in this manner, an ORP controller and an ozone reactor be used.

Has anyone done this?
Is the drier maintenance and cleaning really a PITA?
My system is 500 gallons....where can I find an affordable 1 mg/hr/gallon ozone generator?

Can you get a better pic of the cup? that is on top of the collection cup or can you explain what it is a little better?
Thanks,
Mike

some links with up to date excellant info-----

Also do a RC search in the chemistry forum under "ozone"

Most of what your looking for is in this thread too.

So what!

The BIBLE was written ions ago and it still serves as guideline for people even though we don't live in the same times as it was written.

Sure, maybe thats was poor analogy; but all I'm saying is, don't throw everything the AJ Thiel wrote out the window just cause its more that 15 years old.
