Thumbs up for Ozone!

I just installed the 50 mg/h unit from Red sea 'deluxe' - with a digital readout, ORP controller, air dryer, and small air pump - this is plumbed directly into my AquaC EV 180.

So far, very good and I am very pleased with the equipment. Easy to install, easy to control - I feel safe using it - easy to dial in exact settings for ORP and ozone output.

I have a asm g2 with a sedra 5000 and the recirculation mod on it want to run ozone in it where and howdo you put the carbon on it to stop the smell
Thanks glenn

Here's a quick trick, not the nicest, but you can improve on it. I ran some plastic tape, the wide one all around the top of the collection cup cover. That created sort of a holding container. I then filled it with some carbon. It gives it a nice bed. I want to eventually use some kind of flexible plexiglass to create a double top and then fill that with carbon. If you use the small grain carbon make sure to put some kind of screen on top of the holes.

The other option as some do is just place a large carbon bag on top.

so put the carbon on top of the collection cup. with or without the cover on and do I put carbon any place elselike where the water comes out

Put the carbon on top of the collection cup, mainly to cover the air vents. As for carbon on the return, im not doing so, but others recommend it.

Well, you guys have finally convinced me to go ozone! It only took me 15 years of reefing to make the leap.

Shortly, I will be ordering the Red Sea 50 mg/hr unit for my 90 gallon reef. I plan to hook it up to a Neptune Aquacontroller to monitor the ORP levels.

I have ordered a ozone port from My reef Creations so I can plum the ozone directly into my MR-1 skimmer. I'll also have a small airpump to push fresh air through the air drier and ozone unit. The air pump will also run in conjunction with the ozone unit so that it doesn't run 24/7. Just when the ozone unit is on.

I think I want to get an orp level as high as 400 since my ORP is currently ranging from 315-330 without ozone. My tank is primarily sps dominated (see gallery) so I want to get as much light penetration as possible. It should be interesting to see my new LUX readings with ozone use.

I'll keep you all posted as soon as I get it all running. Thanks for the great information!

I've got my ozone red sea 100mg showing up at my house today. You guys convinced me as well. I can't wait. Thanks and I'm sure I'll be asking questions.

O.k. need help, this looked easy. I have the outlet of the ozone going into one of the airline hose on my ASM G6 skimmer to suck air versus pushing air with a pump.. After about 15 minutes my PVC pipes going from my pumps to the skimmer that are just pressed together blow a part, like the skimmer is filling up like a bomb about to explode. I don't have an air pump pushing air into the dryer. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?:(

inserting a T between the ozone line and the skimmer might help.
l
the ozone line -----l----skimmer. Sounds like the skimmer is getting choked and has back pressure that blew the pipes apart.

Just a guess.

thank you, Anyone agree with this, or would It be releasing ozone into the air without going through any carbon. FYI, my gate valve mod has a pipe that is underwater.

today, i spoke with jay at premium aquatics.
i am looking to buy an enaly generator and orp controller and was questoning the ozone reactors (imho all reactors look like crap).....he told me if i have a large sump (which i do 90g), they suggest i put a 5g bucket in my sump with ozone and a bag of carbon (instead of the reactor).......

does this make sense?

clown2be,

The skimmer pump is pulling in air. The air will follow the path of least resistence, therefore if the skimmer and ozone are in line, the ozone will flow straight through to the skimmer and extra air that the skimmer needs to function properly will be pulled in through the 90 degree leg of the T. No ozone will go out through the 90 degree leg.

This is the same setup I use on my G-4X, no problems.

clown2be Not sure why your pipe would blow off but could be the T. As for carbon on the out put I had to take a container and cut the bottom out so the skimmer output would drain into the container then the sump. Run it higher than the water in the sump so it has to drain out the bottom. I run the carbon pad on top of the plastic grate and a bag under it. Some people just put a bag on the output but when I did that it made a carbon dust mess in the tank. It's hard to explain but check out the pics they may help.

yes its normal for skimmate to turn white

It does sound like your going to get Ozone into the air if you put a T in that line, I think your airpump is too powerful. You should pretty much use the suction of the air to pull the ozone into the skimmer.

I wouldnt buy Enaly!! It played havick with things in my house. My computer speakers buzzed, my aqua controller lost all control etc. I would recommend the Pacific Coast Imports Ozone unit, its 250mg adjustable output for like $100

Liquidfunk,

He is not using and air pump. He is drawing the ozone in via the skimmer:

I have the outlet of the ozone going into one of the airline hose on my ASM G6 skimmer to suck air versus pushing air with a pump

The T will not put ozone into the room as the ozone is not being pushed through by an air pump, it's being drawn in by the skimmer. The T will only draw in extra air that the skimmer needs to operate properly.

Thanks everyone, that is why I love RC. I will go and get the T and and think I had my bag of carbon blocking to much of the output and caused back pressure.
