UCSB Santa Barbara NSW Natural Sea Water...

I live in Orange County. Thinking about getting two (maybe three) IBC 275 gallon containers getting me some free water! I'd spend only about $70 in diesel so it would only be 8 cents a gallon. HRMM

definitely worth it but if you are in OC i believe you are much closer to scripts near san Diego where they do it as well.

for me in WLA it was a 200 mile round trip and i would always visit friends in Ventura and make a day of it. i don't have a truck any more so i make water again.

Catalina water can be an option for some to get direct delivery while cheaper it is not FREE and you need to get a lot to get the best price.

The water is flowing again. I picked up 65 gallons on both Saturday and Sunday. It's down the same little driveway, just on the other side. The curb in front of the hose is painted red, but there is a sign that says to No Idling, so a bit of a mixed message. There is a permitted spot, but you have to buy it (http://www.tps.ucsb.edu/shortTermRates.aspx) and lug the water around the corner of the building.

Glad to hear it's open. Now I can go back to my regular schedule of 200G W/C every few weeks.

So are you saying you can't pull up to the hose to fill up? Is there anyone around telling you not to park there?

I'll be heading there soon and guess I'll find out. Kind of hard to lug a 250G container around so I'll have to park by the hose. :)

You can park in front of the hose, it's just the curb is painted red. I guess it depends on the mood campus security is in if they see you. Perhaps a six pack will get you out of a bind. A cop actually drove by on lagoon when I was parked there but he probably had a burning sofa to investigate. Nobody bothered me on the weekend and since you'll be there almost an hour, you probably want to avoid normal school hours. I definitely wouldn't go to the beach while your tank filled.

Is there an option to get "unfiltered" water? If I were to get NSW, I'd primarily want all the plankton.

Yes there is an option to get RAW sea water but you need to contact the Marine Biology Lab to get it.

MASVC has had several field trips to the research facility.

Are you wanting to use the raw water for a tropical tank?

If so, you may have too much die off than it's worth. Remember the water here is around 55* most of the time. Bringing the temp up to 78* will more than likely kill off the things you are trying to get.

Just a thought.

Well that didn't take long. I went out again today and the hose was missing, thus necessitating a trip out to k-mart. I would have left it there but I actually needed another hose around the house. I'll probably head out there again in a couple weeks and if I think about it, I'll pick up a little cheapie to leave there. You should plan to take your own unless you hear otherwise.

I did. If I pull a bit forward of the spigot I can see most of the jugs in my trunk and I just fill them in place.

Hey all, I stopped by the marine building today to check out some of the tanks they had set up there and asked some staff about the nsw and they said they didn't know anything about it. Soo where is this spigot? Can I just bring my 5g jug there and fill up?

If you look on this map, there is a little driveway between the new Ocean Science building and BIO II just off Lagoon and UCEN Roads. The spigot is now on the BIO II side and I believe there is a sign saying to not drink the water. It's halfway down the driveway along a red painted curb. You probably want to bring your own hose. Just hook up and fill 'er up.

Turn right on u cen road.its the first right turn with a stop sign. The ally is right behind the first building on the right on the corner. I picked up 90 gallons and no one said anything. Feels a little weird when your filling up. Still no hose so bring your own.

Shrum,

Thanks. I am heading up there today and was planning on taking a picture for this thread, but to be honest I am glad that you did it first. Now I know where to go. :bounce1:
