I am curious

I am curious

I just upgraded to the Radions and have mine set to run the natural program and have the peak intensity set to 58% All seems to be good except I have had a sudden diatom bloom. I have read through this and the other post regarding the various optimized programs for users tanks and the algae blooms have been mentioned, nut only in passing.

My question is really regarding the algae bloom. What settings are people running to avoid, or minimize this effect?

I have a mixed 150 gal (48x24x31) with the majority being SPS.

Any information regarding this would be helpful.

Great question and I hope ecotech gets back to us.

But if I had to guess I would say lower the reds.

So all the people that are running the radion around 50%, do you have all the channels set high?

I have my fixture set to 90% intensity with the standard radion 20k set to run for 9 hours. Nothing fancy.

What is a nice way to export the schedule so others can see it instead of in the xml format?

Here is what I have in the tank. I am running MAX at 55%

It will not let me embed the video, so just click on the link.

Just swapped out to the Wide Angle lenses. Lower the light down from 14"awl to 11" and turned the overall intensity to 45% from 35%. So far so good and the overall brightness appearance of the tank is better.

Ah- I assumed the Radions were controlled by the Apex, my bad. If they're running on EcoSmartLive then I think you're limited to the schedule export feature and or screenshots. You can export your profile and upload the .etg file then people can save it and view it on their computer via ESL. Not so easy but as far as I know that's what it is.

So I just recently purchased a Gen 1 Radion. I was contemplating the upgrade but now that I see from this poll that most users are running at lower intensities, would you say the upgrade is worth it?
Thanks!

Either one. If everybody is running at 50% or less i just didn't think I would need a more powerful light. Unless the are other features with the newer models that are worth it.
Thanks!

Accurate Par readings or knowing and reading your inhabitants is key to what percentage you should be at, also.

Some of us have inhabitants that are in wade pools (low water level) all the way to a few feet in the water; in the wild.

So what one wants in higher light bleaches/hurts the other one. Just because we want this one to be higher in the tank because it looks good, in turn, makes us have to lower our lights to not hurt everything else. (including higher algae levels)

This is exactly why I havent upgraded, I have two Gen 1's and a sps dominate tank and max out at a few hours a day at a peak of 75% (any higher = bleaching) I don't see the point in getting a more powerful light, the newer Gens do have "more" beyond just power but at the cost I can't justify it if my corals are happy and grow like crazy with the Gen 1's.....what I wish Ecotech would do is newer versions of their vortechs...more model sizes, types, etc rather than new LED models every 6 to 8 months.

Yes... running at 50%

Wow 41 votes for less then 50% that's insane. I would have never thought that and to be honest I am very surprised.

For those running their Radions 70% or less, why don't you change to the wise lens? Seems like you would get a better spread, brighter tank and it won't cook your corals. Is there something I'm missing. I've seen tanks with lit by under 60% And they look dark.
