What you don't want to see after a long day at work

elegance coral

They call me EC
This is what my tank should look like. Haddoni bottom right, magnifica perched on her throne front dead center, and gigantea top left.

I don't have the CLS hooked up for the mag yet, so she stole the gigantea's flow.

What a bummer! It's gonna be a helluva time putting that mag back. Did you lose any corals from it taking a walk?

If only it were that easy... :)

Personally I think you deserve kudos for trying to keep that magnifica down there on that lower rock. They always climb on me - no matter how settled I think they are.

As others have said - i'm surprised they haven't been stinging each other. Or should I say - I'm surprised the gigantea hasn't kicked its butt yet :)

First off I love your tank and I hope the nems are nice to each other!!

If I may ask, what type of micro algae is in you tank? I love the way it looks. Does it take over like calurpa does?

Thanks and good luck,
Aaron

Beautiful anemones. Looks like they aren't clobbering each other too bad in the pick. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the nice comments everybody.:)

I tried to set it up so that the magnifica couldn't reach any higher ground from the pedestal. Obviously that didn't work very well. LOL. I'll try to move some things around this weekend, and get the CLS hooked up. Hopefully that will keep her in one place.

It's Caulerpa racemosa, or sea grapes. It can take over a tank if you let it. I have three areas where I let it grow. When it starts getting to thick, or spreading out, I harvest most of it. I always leave just enough for it to regrow. This keeps it from taking over, I think it looks good, and it helps me remove nutrients from the system. Caulerpa isn't for everyone though.

So far I don't see any signs of stress on either one of them, but I'm at work while the lights are on. Naturally, they could be ducking it out and I just can't see it yet. If everything goes well, I'll get a little break from my work schedule and have the time to separate them tomorrow.

All still OK?
I wonder the same thing each day when I get home. Will the mag be in the same place or not? Will it have gone walkabout and left a path of destruction? So far so good, but only a matter of time;)

Have you ever used C. ashmeadii? It's a large species that looks like a giant feather caulerpa, but is supposed to be slower-growing and much less invasive. I got some from an online retailer last week and am really pleased with it so far.

Your tank is beautiful, BTW!

Everything seems to be okay. The mag did a little bit of damage to a small acropora frag, but I think it will recover.
I don't think the mag will move once I get the CLS hooked up and move some stuff around so that she can't reach a path to higher ground.

Ya, I've had it before. Like you said, it didn't grow very fast though. I keep racemosa because it does grow fast. I figure, the faster it grows, the faster it pulls nutrients from the system. I'd like to try some of the mutant strain of C. taxifolia, but here in Florida, all I can find is the natural strain. I've kept most, if not all, the Caulerpa species that live around Florida. I've just had the best luck with racemosa.
