Would you purchase a $4000 dollar fish?

So if you have the cash and you want that guy ..GO for that... hpoe you donÃ"šÃ‚´t mind if the fish dies after two hours (at least not because of the MONEY!! For ME its all times a torture when a fish dies!!)

I am bringing this thread back to life.

I haven't slept for two straight nights, and now it's about 3:30 a.m. here; so I humbly appologize in advance for the following deleria.

This fish is found off the Cook Islands at 180 to 300 feet. A surface aided dive or utilization of a re-breather can have a trained recreationial diver reach these depths.

A little study of deep water fish catches, scuba classes; and a few thousand dollars can reap tremendous award for those of you willing to attemt this. I am!

I currenty have a dive master certification, and have the advantage of taking re-breather or surface assisted lessons.

Anyone else interested in taking the plunge?

Yes, it is a very beautiful fish, although I like to have my fish live and thrive so I am able to enjoy the results of aquarium husbandry.

I think for the price I would have to win a very large mega lottery and employ a full time fish Veterinarian to manage my new brand new Paracentropyge boylei species tank.

If you don't know already, the reason for the high price tag on this fish is due to the fact that it is collected in the twilight zone. The twilight zone refers to 200 ft to 1500 ft. The first collectors of this fish suffered such a severe case of nitrogen narcosis due to the low depth, that they couldn't even recall collecting the fish.
I think youre confusing paracentropyge boylei and centropyge narcosis. The collector of the centropyge nacrcosis got the bad case of nitrogen narcosis, and thats how the fish got second part of its name. Im surprised people still get surprised hearing about expensive fish when you could go on divers den and see lots of expensive fish for sale. If i had the money i would get two and try to breed them to get my money back plus profit, but that will never happen. and by the way, these fish arent very hardy, so whoever purchases one has to be a very daring individual.

people spend that much or more on suites, purses, cloths for dogs the list goes on & on
if i had enough money where 4grand didn`t mean jack to me i would give it in a heartbeat. i don`t so i won`t.would if i could

Will the real Peppermint Angel please stand up!

Will the real Peppermint Angel please stand up!

Would you purchase a Peppermint Angelfish (Paracentropyge boylei) for $4000 dollars?

Will the real Peppermint Angel please stand up!

There was a recent post on this thread concerning the proper latin name for this fish, i.e. "I think you are confusing paracentropyge boylei and centropyge narcosis". A Google search for paracentropyge boylei brings up the red and white striped Peppermint Angel.

I searched and found the centropyge narcosis is a golden/brown fish with a black eye dot on its upper back which comes from the same area of the Cook Islands as does the red and white striped Peppermint Angel aka paracentropyge boylei. I looked at: http://glassbox-design.com/2008/rar...s-apolemichthys-kingii-holacanthus-limbaughi/

I see this thread is a few years old. Did anyone on here buy one? Have they dropped in price in the last few years?

Was there REALLY a need to bump a 3+ year old thread for that comment lol?

I have trouble purchasing a $40 fish, much less $4000.

Which may explain my issue of my Damsel dominating his 4 tankmates :)

could you imagine flushing $4000 down a toilet it it died........... i would have to mount that baby hahaha

Nah, I would get two.

Seriously. I would walk out into the street and feed 1000 homeless people before spending that kind of money on any pet.

I can't get past the thought of actually having enough money to spend that amount on a fish to decide whether or not I actually would.

This thread makes me hungry for fried fish. Looks like the thread is from the RC cold case files LOL. Any leads?
