130 X 36 x 36 inbound...any suggestions?

Ted, I wanted to thank you for doing a step by step posting with this fish, as you have done with other fish. I hope that people realize that it doesn't matter what you spend on a fish... it matters how you QT it, and take care of it long term, no matter what it cost.

I know rare fish get all the attention, but I hope people do the same with all of their fish.

Hey Peter,

Cool, just doing what I would hope to see if it was somebody else got this fish or, lol, any fish I find fascinating.
Yes, I agree, you and I have very def. and absolute beliefs on the importance of the qt protocols we put our fish through...
The peppermint will spend a min of 10 weeks in qt and at the end I will make decisions on where she will finally go...it still amazes me that there is any debate on the benefits of a thorough qt procedure...
These peps were caught in warm water which relieved some stress as it appears, at least to me, that they are perhaps more tolerant of temps than we initially believed...but I still have so many questions about this fish that will only be answered with time...Koji is keeping his tanks at 72-74...
I will keep you updated and always appreciate your advice and support..you are truly a wealth of knowledge...

Ditto that. I always look forward to your postings, pictures, insights and advice - were all super busy and really takes time to do all the things u post - it doesn't go unappreciated boss.

Thanks Adam...I laugh with my family and friends about the time I spend "in" and "around" my tanks...it stopped being a hobby many years ago and became what is truly an obbsession, athough one that is immensly satisfying for me...the challenge of finding hard to obtain fish and raising them, especially from tiny sizes is wonderfully fulfilling, as is, meeting, talking to, and getting to know the wonderful people that dive/collect, breed, and offer these beautiful fish to us hobbyists.
I look forward to catching up, let's talk soon.

Supposed to be today? I think the whole reefing world is watching this - lol.

Nice collection BTW - I love the bandits. Gorgeous animals.

Sweet! Hope all goes well!

thank you, lol, you and me both...
also appreciate the comments in your other post...I love the Bandits too and am especially in love with the baby Bandit I got from Rufus last June...she was a tiny lil thing when I got her- could fit on a quarter with plenty of room to spare..was about half an inch....

Sure...
At a min it lasts 8-10 weeks though typically a bit longer..
first 2-3 weeks are spent observing and feeding many different foods to see which foods are preferred.
after the fish is eating, comfy, and strong I will begin medicating...
I usually start with Prazi, though it depends on the fish, and typically do 2-3 rounds...water changes and 2 weeks of observation...
next is cupramine- for angels, especially centropyge, I ramp up about 3x slower than seachem recommends, and depending on the reaction to the cupra, might not get up to the recommended .5mg/l...
water changes and more observing...
there may be 2-3 rounds of cupra...

during qt I keep the lights down- I try not to use the whites..
the tanks are bb and have pvc pieces only...the only lights on during the day are actinics and/or moonlights.

If stronger meds are needed this is when I would use them...

Depending on the fish, they might be fed up to 10 times a day...

Prime or any similiar ammonia binding product are never used in my qts.
the 2 qt tanks are always running even when they are empty...when empty I still feed the tank once a week and do water changes.

This is a decent overview...

**Even if meds are not used, to place a new fish in a seperate system with the luxury of being able to observe its behavior and appearance while being able to target feed them without competition from other fish is paramount to a healthy and thriving dt, ime..

Wow -- that's an elaborate QT procedure but it's hard to argue with the results. I had heard of 2-3 rounds of Praz, but not cupramine. Do you only administer the multiple doses when you see potential symptoms or every time?

Thank you for the info -- just purchased a potters and am planning on nursing it along in much the same way. Diligence and redundancy looks to be the key.

it varies from fish to fish but I would say most fish get at least 2 rounds with cupramine...
careful with her and cupramine and you probably know that prazi often acts like an appetite suppressant so try to get her eating first..

thank you for the detailed explanation.

are water changes [every other day] enough to not get ammonia spike ? I assume there is no biological filtration ?

I have lost a blue line and a lemon peel before while treating with cupra ... they never ate after the treatment. I will follow your method now on of slowly ramping up and not get to the full dosage.

water changes are only done after medicating, not every other day, sorry if that was confusing...both tanks have solid filtration...if I added lr they could both be dt...

my lfs got a red sea regal angel I have on hold and am trying to entice it to eat. My QT is a 20 long, its 4-5 inches I just want to maximize success. Thanks for the heads up.
