47G SPS...Revamp

I only have one thing to add. :D

I just came back from the LFS that runs 400W Halides over their main show tank. I've never run halides and I can't due to where my tank sits, but I think you all are crazy not to if you can. Just crazy, period. I've never seen a light so gorgeous as a 400W 20K Radium. Hell, the trigger they had in the tank looked flipping fantastic due to the lighting.

Happy new years and I genuinely wish you the best of luck with the LED's. if anyone can do it you can.

Hello Denadai! When are you restarting a tank? I know you've run all the different lighting technologies and have had success with all...

I really wish you'd be back with that Hydra lit sps tank.

Best wishes for 2016 my friend

Hi Sahin,

After the power outage I´m still running the tank but as FO with my tangs.

There a lot of things going in my life and maybe in the middle of this year I have a chance to finally build a new tank as I dream.

Man, I´m getting sick without SPS :wildone:

Where did you buy the oceanlife overflow ?

Best Regards

Looking forward to seeing you work your magic with those Radions in 2016 mate, Mark and Richard couldn't have put it better.

Have a wonderful year ahead Sahin, keep the family safe and the wife happy

Had to go a long way back to find pictures, but it was sure worth it :)
You keep beautiful corals! True master

I run led, t5 and the combination on my tanks.
In my experience, the biggest difference is how light is distributed.
Using t5's, I find that I have a large zone in the top/middle of the aquarium, hitting the acro sweet spot. Within that zone, moving a coral up or down, left or right doesn't matter that much.
Changing to led's it gets more difficult.
A few inches to the side, up/down, where I get overlap from multiple clusters. Huge difference in par, no matter how good the reflectors are.
As a consequence, I have found the limits for certain acros I thought would thrive under high light conditions.
As a result it is rare for me to hit the perfect light conditions at my first try, placing a new coral in the led-tank. Often I break them into a few frags. One kept under t5, to show me the potential, and a few to try and find the same colors under leds.

In my experience, once I find the level, corals can get equal beauty from leds.
Just my 5 cents :)

Looking forward to hear about your experiences.

Carrying on from the hotspot thing..... I don't have them under mine. If you space them well, have them higher over the tank, and on my tank I use the wide angle lenses I didn't notice any obvious hot spots. Are you planning on using wide angle lenses?

And that height of hanging is right at what mine is. 13 inches

Yup, I'm going to have them about 14inches above the waterline. At that height and with 1.5-2 units more than manufacturers recommend, you get MUCH better coverage and very minimal shadowing.

I've always mentally toyed with the idea of adding 6 kessil over my tank.... it's the $3,000 US dollars that keep me content with my $400 used Giesemann Spectra :)

If the Radions dont work out; my next tank is going to have a 400w Radium with T5 and LED as supplement. If that is the case, then I'll have to stick with a tank very similar size and shape to yours.

I agree 400w Radiums look amazing. And if these Radions dont work out as I like them to then 400w Radiums will be going over my next tank and I'll be giving Biggles a good acro challenge. :fun2:

You got that right. No one has a more objective attitude towards reef equipment. I'm sure Sahin will make it work very well.

The parts I need for rigging these Radions up shipped out a few days ago. Hopefully they arrive tomorrow and I can start building the light rack.

Haha, you need some SPS. I'll be looking forward to your tank with corals.

I bought the Oceanlife from a UK LFS. I emailed Ocealife manufacturer in Italy and they said its cheaper to buy from UK stockist else the shipping would be high.

Thanks on all counts my friend. You have a great year ahead too.

Agreed! I'm all T5 this time, but yeah Radiums are still #1 in my books.

Happy new year Sahin!

Happy new year to you as well Mindy. Radiums will always be #1 in my books too. I wish an LED manufacturer would actually take one of these lights and create a fixture with the exact same spectrum...that would be amazing wouldn't it? :D

Thanks for the useful words. I was actually going to ask you about LED versus T5; do LEDs produce as good colours as T5's in your tank? You've already answered that in the post above. :)

Sorry, Sahin, I know this is reef keeping and all and your changing to LEDs but Bulent asked a good question and a more important question is if either of you two took any pics??
I love fireworks!!
I need a pic!!
Then we can get back to the LEDs..
By the way, what's the eta for having them hung and humming along for public consumption?

Happy new year Sahin.

Did you go to the firework displays at Embankment last night?

Happy reefing.

Bulent I live 5 mins away from Embankment...I can see the BigBen clock from my bedroom window. From my flat I can see all the fireworks light up the sky around...from South to east to west etc... Years ago I used to go see the fireworks...last few years I just feel too old and lazy...:lolspin:

Incidentally, I've seen the Red Arrows fly over the House of Parliament with the blue and red smoke a few times now...all from my bedroom window. :)

No pics re fireworks, no pics re anything. My camera and replacement memory card still not provided by work! :mad2: Going to chase up tomorrow.

I love fireworks too buddy. I have a scar on the bottom of my right foot...messing with fireworks when I was 5 or 6. Mum told us to be careful, but of course I wasnt listening...acting like a fool showing off to the other kids and stamping on fireworks...sandal comes off mid air, foot goes on still redhot firework on the ground. Burned foot. Still, I didnt cry...acted tough as always (screamed in pain etc)...unlike my younger bro who used to be such a cry baby. :lolspin:

Like the time when I told him to catch a British wasp with his hands...my dad went mad...:lolspin:

Anyway...Radions. Almost finished drilling and putting together the frame for the Radions. Going to use the hanging kit from my Pacsun and ATI units to suspend the Radion rack from the ceiling...the bits from either one should be good to hold up the radions nicely. Ceiling was by the way, crazy hard to drill into concrete using the weak 14.4volt Ryobi cordless drill :mad2:

Should have the lights hung by the end of the week. If my Samsung Galaxy S5 arrives before I get the damn camera back, I'll post up a few pics from that.

Excellent. You must really be a well-to-do man Sahin if you can afford to live in central London. :artist:

I wish I was Bulent. Living in Central London is bloody damn expensive! And thats why my reefkeeping budget is miniscule. :mad2:

Car parking costs as much as per hour as minimum wage per hour around here! Some areas its even worse.

But, having grown up so centrally, I've gotten used to the fast paced life and find other areas too quiet.

Sahin,
Going AF I hear? This in combo with all LED's, you have got some big changes about to happen, and I mean in a good way :) I would love to incorporate a system of LED's, but I am too old to figure out this technology, lol... I think it will suit you well, as you love to tinker, so I am patiently standing back waiting for you to lay down some serious pics! Side note, saw your bro's tank on FB last night, I can definitely see your influence, stunning buddy :)

Happy New Beer Sahin!
can you comment on how you like the Kore 5th after a few months please.

It's funny, your thread is the one that inspired me to change from Radions to an ATI. I was going to do a build where I install the Radions into the T5 unit but ended up going with straight up T5 and selling off the Radions. I am regretting that now and wish I would have done that build. I am very very happy with the T5s overall but miss the extreme POP. Maybe I still will build it one day will but other equipment has taken budget priority (Kore 5th) (Vectra Return pump).

Looking forward to some pictures of the array.

Car parking as mini wage:eek1:

No wonder we can only set office at Slough, next to O2 office.

Seriously , are there a good LFS that I can take tube and spend couple hours there?

Hi Perry. I'll wait at least 3 months before starting on the AquaForest to allow sufficient time to see how the tank does with the Radions.

The tank you saw is my friends tank; its his tank which convinced me to switch over to pure LED's. He's been using Radions for a number of years and so I've come to see what results can be obtained with them.

Hey Sahin, How many fish do you have in your tank now?

Yesterday I just bought 5 more Chromis for my tank. I've not had good success with Anthias and I admit to that. So my current fishload is:

5xChromis
1xMale Anthia
1xRed Firefish
1xFairy Wrasse
1xTomini Tang
1xTarget Mandarin
1xMidas Blenny
1xCleaner Wrasse

Happy New Beer Sahin!

I like the Kore 5th doser. Its built well and compares to the GHL and other ones I used in the past. I had to take it off some time ago as I explained a page or so back; it doesnt fit in my tank stand and my 1 year old started messing with it as it was kept under a table next to the tank. Hopefully in the next few months we will redecorate our living room and I'll be able to place it well.

With regards to swapping to LED's; I want to try LED's and find out how difficult or impossible it is to obtain acro colours with them.

I've still got my ATI and PacificSun units so I can always switch back; like I said, this is also an experiment to determine the lighting for my next tank.

Yes, car parking in Central London is like a miniwage. :uhoh2: Being in Slough is much cheaper.

Check out Aquatic Design Centre in Central London. Or Advanced Aquarium Consultancy in Harlow, Essex. Both are worth a browse.

Sahin, amazing thread !!!! Tank looks great. Subscribed

Thank you. :)

So lights are now up. I still havent got my camera or replacement memory card from work. BUT I got a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone so I'll be taking some shots with that. :)
