600 Gallon Upgrade Build

I had a similar quandary when setting up my 540 and moving things from my old 300..... didn't have fish terrorizing each other but needed to QT dozens of fish and keep them alive while they were being QTd waiting to move them into the new setup....I decided to keep them in the old 300 and turn it to hypo and let them stay right in that setup as I didn't have a large enough QT with enough active biological to keep them alive in it for 2 months while in hypo as I wanted no hitch hikers moving in to the new setup.....that was not fun keeping up with water changes everyday to keep ammonia levels down from all the die while waiting on the bio to catch up....took it about a week of a small cycle but it was a success though as they all were parasite free and made the move to the new setup....just stay your course and dont rush it though, if anything borrow a fish trap and get the bad guys out....have a good holiday....

The consensus is a fish trap. I will see what I can do. Merry Christmas to all large reef tankers and fam also.

Happy New Year Buddy!

I love your coral collection!

Those interlocking monti caps are going to look great in your new tank!!!

:fish1:

You added a few more since I have been out your way. Looks great. so next time i'm in Flordia I will see all those in your 600 :)

Great Thread, Im new to RC, but I have about 700 gal total system, When i first set up this tank, I worked on it for a year and got anxious to get water running. That was a huge mistake. Now my take is tore down, my sump room looks like a ghost town, and everything has been sitting dry for almost 2 years. I am currently retooling it, but I wish I were smarter when I set it up and decided to take my time and get it right.

Happy New Year to you too. Those caps happen to be a fluke. My friend got a deal on a tank but didn't have the capability to house hard corals so when she gave me that cap about a year ago we thought it was dead. I didn't have any glue at the time so I took my neon cap that had a large plug on it and placed it on top of the other cap to keep it in place and low and behold that became one of the center pieces in my tank. Unfortunately I will be fragging it because Its just to big. I plan on doing a tricolor with the green neon cap, my Idaho grape and probably find a blue or pink one to place together. We will see.

All the fish will be transferred over except for the killer engineer gobies and the pink spot gobie. As for corals, there will be a couple that will will be introduced. I have some work to do in the room this weekend and so probably after I come back from vacation I will setup my QT coral tank. I believe I will get the Deep Blue 57 gallon rimless like the one they auctioned off at the TBRC conference in August where we met.

Hello Russ and welcome to the RC. Sorry about what you went through. I believe the one thing that is helping me out and taking it slow is the budget. That was a blessing in disguise and also a reality check for me too.

Wishing you the best on retooling your tank and hope to see your build on here.

Wayne, I have enjoyed following your build thread and always enjoy reading your posts, both here and the other threads on RC. It seems that you always have a kind word or encouragement for others. You are an inspiration, for the hobby, and life in general.

Thanks Trade. One thing I've learned is don't take everything for granted and alway keep a positive attitude I learned Tha the hard way and I don't want anyone quitting on something or loosing enthusiasm over something that can be solved with patience. I learned that in Iraq and it almost caused me and my troops their lives. I caught the tail end of it and they survived. So I use that experience as you never had it bad like you think you have.

Started on the floor today.

When I removed the carpet after purchasing the house, there were pieces of concrete that came up so I had to repair the perimeter of the room.

I have to wait three days before I can go to the next phase.

Friday the cable company will be moving my computer connection to another room so I can fully dedicate the room to the tank.

thanks for the greeting and great thread. What will you use for substrate, BB or sand? that is one of the items I am toying around with in my head. I love sand, but want it clean too.

I will definitely be going with sand. My goal is no more than 1 1/2", 2" at the most.
