a simple sps tank

Meh, cyano. My corals look better whenI have it. :D

Great new pics, I do love the scape and the idea of coral shaping. I've glued some larger broken branches back and that does seem to work well.

Now all you need is some post processing of the images. :lmao:

I know,right?lol
That's what i see too mark.
Sometimes i'm even afraid how they'll look if i ever manage to get rid of it.,lol

Regarding photos i'm beyond helpless and incompetent, buddy:(
But thank you all guys for your patience:love1::beer:
In the back of my head i hear a voice that says...when your tank will be worthy of it,you will manage to get descent pics....so i hope:p

Mike, I know I have said this before but I'm saying it again.. I love the look of your tank. Really nice aesthetics. The scape is really cool and unique.
You have the perfect design for serious coral shaping.
Keep doing what you are doing!
There are some..... Better shots in there as well! :)
Keep them coming!

Really sorry for the late replys guys:(
I managed to "unfollow" my own thread and as a result,i missed your posts:hmm5:

I'll be using that next time my thread gets bumped 300 times in a week. :lolspin:

Good to see the update buddy. Can you describe in full detail your feeding regime for the fish and corals? Thanks.

I'm sorry to say buddy but your tanks BFC is too low... I expect Biggles will have a few words to say about that. :hammer:

Do you guys ever shape your corals?
I just did it with a couple of stags and this mille. One of it's branches was growing on top of the coral on the right,so i cut it and glued it to another branch. So no more shading and now it will grow to the front of the glass(at least i hope so,lol)

I do the same Mike, acros don't call the shots in my scaping outcome mate - i do. Your spooky scape is one of my favorites on RC buddy, i wouldn't be surprised to see a headless seahorseman chucking flaming pumpkins at the fish when they swim between those bommies........:reading:

Thank you so much buddy,i really appreciate that:beer:
You give me so much courage!
The more the corals grow the more i like it too:)

Lol,that was an amazing excuse or not my dear friend?lol
No really i did it by accident while i was taking my walk and i uchecked the wrong boxes. When i tried to do it all over again the window that has that option, kept disappearing, the moment i press it:hmm4:
I fixed it from my pc:)

I feed my fish 4 times every day(many food types and every other day artemia) and my corals get one cube of pappone once every week. That's all.Think it's too little?
I read what you were discussing with rich regarding some possible unbalance
in bacterial population and maybe that has something to do with me too.
As a starting point i'll put my skimmer(ati 250is,maybe it's oversized for my fish population and my frequent WC routines) skimming dry.
Maybe that will help me raise a bit my nutrients(at least not strip them asap from the water column).
Had been thinking of it lately but after a small talk with andrew in matt's thread i'll do it.

What's the BFC?I know it's something andrew "invented" but i can't remeber exactly what the initials stand for:-(
fish,corals?

You know what demons i'm fighting AGAIN???
....removing sand:deadhorse:

Very nice Mike, things are starting to fill in!
Thank you buddy:beer:
You know better than me,how it goes...the bigger the corals get the faster they seem to grow and fill the tank:)

Lol,after all we own the tanks right?
I feel like an artist when i do it,it's like fixing the small details in a painting:p
I'm really happy you like it buddy, that means a lot to me and i'm sure that headless seahorseman will throw some pumpkins at me too,lol

Hey buddy. Why you be fighting them demons again??? :fun2: Why do you want to remove the sandbed? Is it because of algae/cyano?

My tank is now approaching 10 months or so and it went through various algae/cyano cycles. I had some Dino looking stuff on some areas of the sandbed for about 2 months. I had cyano before that for about 3 weeks. I let it run its course. I just chose to ignore it.

In that time, DO NOT change the filtration...what I mean is if you carbon dose (organic carbon dose like vodka/vinegar etc), then dont suddenly stop. If you run GAC then dont stop etc...ie keep things consistent. Feed the fish well. In time the biological filtration will improve and the nuisance algae/cyano will go away.

I second this advice!

Looking good Mike, Biggles like to hack things up and glue them back together.
Thanks dan, really glad you like it buddy:beer:
As for andrew,i hope he does that only to corals:p

Thank you very much for your advice sahin,my dear friend:beer:
Sadly i spent one day getting rid of sand.

When cyano covered with a thick layer the rocks,i just siphoned it and then super clear. It was rather easy to do it too.
On the sand i couldn't do much because while i was removing cyano from there i was removing parts of sand too.
So in the end i was left with only 1cm bed which was fueling the water with soooooo many tiiiiny hairlike parts, which later covered the rocks again.
I tried to get some pics but they where so small that my bad camera and my luck of photo skills, couldn't capture them.
So i decided to take sand out again and see what will happen.
I didn't change anything else only a couple more feedings and added one more fish:)

I tried ignoring it too buddy and let it run it's course but the moment i did that, it became worse:(
Before i knew it i was siphoning it again.

I like sand and i will add again but i'm thinking something different or even make something diy with glued sand.I don't know, thinking over it because i like the look of it:)

Thanks again for your advice sahin, much appreciated:beer:
I second this advice!
When he is right,he is right:)
Thanks matt for your input:beer:

So i got some pics after all the trouble of removing sand:)

You silly aculeus...I will decide where you will grow towards lol
That part on the left,i didn't like so it was time for some coral art:p

Cut it and glued it higher to the middle of the coral. It makes it look bigger know(that's my best excuse:) )

Some random

Love this tank, Mike!!
Very cool coral scaping!! Good idea..
When this baby grows out a bit more, it's going to be fantastic!!
Sorry, every couple of pages I ask this.. What are your dimensions?

Mike,
Looking good man, corals are really taking off, can see growth and color, and of course your open scape is beautiful too :)

Oh Mike, you pulled the sand after all:face palm:
Well it looks good, but your stability is all gone for a while. Hopefully it stabilizes quickly so things can continue to thrive:)

Oh Mike... :fun2:

Well, what done is done LOL Keep an eye on the parameters and try and keep things stable.

You can buy corals like chalices, favias even zoas and place them on the bottom to break up the artificial glass look. Detritus might collect between the zoas, but a weekly basting before water change will take care of things. Just an idea. :)

You did the same thing i did months ago for the same reason. It totally ends cyano, i guess by the sudden large removal of bound up crap it allows better bacteria to gain control in the balance going on within our water. No idea tbh but as the others have said, the water will be more twitchy now compared to what you're used to. Also watch for a alk/cal draw increase in a few weeks once the coralline takes off, that's a lot of suddenly available real estate.
Spooky reef still looks awesome Mike

Mean't to say, nice work 'adjusting' that acro :)

Thanks buddy, glad you like it,it means a lot to me:thumbsup:
Yeah you're right and atm i'm waiting for most of the corals to grow:-)
Don't worry about the ?,it happens to me all the time.
It's 1,20 x 88 x 60 cm

Thanks perry, really glad you like it buddy:beer:
Growth is nice but colorwise it needs a lot of work sadly:-(
Hope i'll get there some tiime in the future.

lol,i did it:p
Thanks matt for the advice:beer:
I have my eyes on it just in case things go south.

Thanks buddy,i'll sure do and thanks for pointing that out:thumbsup:

Liked the idea but i don't like zoas:p
Plus i think they are number one danger in currying pests and hitchhikers.
Maybe i'll try some encrusting montis, like in the past but not sure.

Tbh i like sand and i'm thinking what diy #@$ i could do,so i can have sand without disadvantages.
Something including eggcrate, glue(but what kind?),sand etc
Still making silly plans:-)

Mike - you tank is looking good
Thank you my friend, really happy you like it:beer:

That's right andrew:thumbsup:
Back then it did help and i hope it will do so now too.
Coralline has already started growing. After all, with all this sand i had already removed, there where a lot of spots it claimed.
Thanks guys for alerting me and happy you like the tank!

As for "adjusting" the acro,we said that before...we are the bosses, lol

It's funny how you're on the sand removal phase whilst i'm starting to add it back again Mike lol........ let me know when you're going to put it back and i'll pull mine back out.........:spin1:
