a simple sps tank

It's funny how you're on the sand removal phase whilst i'm starting to add it back again Mike lol........ let me know when you're going to put it back and i'll pull mine back out.........:spin1:

Yeah, you two need to quit with this game. I blame you Biggles. :fun2:

:lolspin::lolspin::lolspin:
Nothing like a newly added sand....you made me jealus:p

:lolspin:
I blame my extra time:p
Should start working out or dancing lessons...that would keep my hands out of the tank:p

So the good thing with "branching" is that you can change things soooo easy:)
I did some coral relocating yesterday.
4-5 corals changed spots between the two islands
Mayyyybe that was the last time:p

Side pics are my favorites, make thr tank and corals look bigger, lol

some cropping

With all this coral relocating from time to time, some coral base always manage to escape so out of nowhere small corals make their appearance:)

And my red planet just for monitoring growth, cause the pic is @#$

Wooo, looks good ... and blue, but good! I like the coral placement, looks really good. :)
Thanks mark, glad you like it buddy!
Tbh it's not that blue in person, guess my photography no-skills affected the outcome:p
I just dialled down the white adjustments or iso, have no idea what i did:)
In person it's whiter than what i like and i blame ABS for that:p
I'll probably go back to a C+ as soon as corals get to descent sizes.

Looking good. I really like the open/minimal rock scape.
Thank you so much mark, really appreciate it:beer:
I like too the open look and i hope in the future it will be taken/claimed from coral growth.

So regarding the cyano, removal of the sand helped this time too.
Made a couple of WC's while siphoning again cyano spots and my water looks clear and the rock too.If things stay this way for a week i'll be happy:p

Atm i'm thinking of putting back my pellet reactor.
Aio pellet bag still have +60%- product and considering if it would help,in any way to plug it up again.
Maybe work as another surface for the bacteria to grow, now that sand is out.
The thing is that not only i can't decide if i should use my reactor again,i don't know if i should go with the classic NP or use my remaining AIO.

Mike, I've heard so often about using pellets and getting cyano..
Do really need to use pellets?
Might it just make things worse?
What are you basing your decision on, to use them?
Do you have elevated n and p?
Sorry for the 20 questions.. Just wondering what your rationale is for adding pellets..

Hey buddy,so sorry for the late reply but i was enjoying my last vacation days:(

Yeah, you're so right about cyano and pellets.
First time i used them i got cyano too but the second time didn't.Never found out why:p

I really don't know if i need them and until this moment it hasn't made things worse.Hope it will stay like this:)
This time used only 100ml of AIO.
Soaked them into fauna bacteria and used my old reactor which is one of the best i've ever used for BP.

My N & P are soooo zero:P
Where at this level even when i had sand in there and now it's even easier with the BB.

I think my bad cyano problem for the last three months is due to some kind of instability in my bacteria population. Now after the sand removal i must have stirred things up in a level.
So maybe now is an opportunity to go heavy with my bacteria dosing and fish/coral feeding.
And since i'm BB and minimal, regarding live rock,i thought BP will give an extra surface for the bacteria to grow.
100ML AIO isn't that much but it's something.

That's my personal and humble approach off course,doesn't mean i'm 100% right:hammer:

Please feel free to ask 1000 questions buddy:beer::beer:

That Moorish Idol with all the SPS and space for it to swim around the colonies looks awesome, makes me feel like I'm back in Indonesia snorkelling on the reef. ;)

I bet you did a Biggles Reef Dance before that Urchin started...:lolspin :

Well, if the Urchin is feeling sexy then the reef must be in good health. : beer:
lol with the biggle dance,lol
The urchin did the same sexy stuff two days later too!
I hope too that's a good indicator buddy:beer:

Hey Mike, hows the tank going? Would love to see some new pics of the tank ;)
Hey dom,it's going ok.
I changed the two islands position again:hmm4:
Can't keep my hands out of the tank.I think it looks better now that the corals are a bit bigger.Plus the bigger island covers the overflow pipe.
I'll take some pics so i can show the changes.
Thanks for the interest guys:beer:

+1 on update Mike. How are the coral colours? Are you noticing improvement?
Ahhhh, not so much my dear friend. It's getting better but nothing spectacular.
Slow improvement though.
And to be honest after your awesome tank update i can't see colors in general, lol
You blinded me with your corals:inlove::inlove:

Thank you so much buddy, happy you like it,it means a lot:beer:
Wish i'll have the same experience with you in the future.Been trying for it for many years but still haven't lived it:(
Every year something happens and i cancel my plans. One day....one day:)

Mike you should stop tinkering with the tank. Sandbed in. Sandbed out. That I think plays around with the biology and probably affects the tank for months.

Can you remind me:
1. What foods and how much are you feeding the tank daily?
2. Are you using two part or Ca reactor? If two part, which brand?
3. Which salt are you using?

Pictures Mike, we need pictures! :)
I'm leaving for work now buddy but when i'll get back in a few hours,i'll take some of my @$#%ty pics matt:p
Don't expect something nice, still needs a lot of work/time and colorwise i'm too far away:(

That's so true my friend.
I'm doing this because it's difficult for me to decide what is more beautiful/functional,sand or BB,plus every problem i had(algea, cyano, etc) was more easy to deal with if the tank had no sand in it.
Off course that's my personal experience and approach,i don't want somebody to read this and start removing sand to deal with problems like the ones i mentioned.

For the last months the only thing i changed was to swap again the two islands position. No sand, rocks addition or removal.
Plugged again my BP reactor but this time didn't use AIO but the classic NP.
Also increased my siporax volume from 2 litres to 4 and that kind of helped with cyano.

1.I feed pappone once a week, the corals.Fish get fed 3 times or more daily, with 3 different types of food(ocean nutrition-prime reef and formula two- and new era marine flake.) and every second day frozen food,artemia-mysis-brine shrimp.
2.Still using two part.Fauna marine but not adding any elements.
3.I'm using TMP and i change 6 gallons every week.

I think that now(4 months) that i have more fish things are improving.
I have one coerelius,one gold rim,one ctenochaetus,the mystery,one moorish and the dussumieri(i know...he gets big).
I still miss achilles:(:(

I'll upload some pics later just to see what i'm talking about.
Thanks for trying to help buddy:beer:
