A Smart? Aquarium in Taiwan...

Hi love the way your sps are responding good result, I see you are using the full zeovit system, how much Zeobak and Start are you using? this could be leading to a biofilm on the glass which is why it needs cleaning every 24 hrs, this seems to be common problem with some ZEO systems.

I am thinking lower my Zeobak and Start3 dosing, but to answer your question, currently I dose 8 drops Bak twice a week, and 1ml Start3 daily.

Wow, shih! The corals are looking fantastic!
Nice job!!

Thanks. I am still twisting the color. I hope I can share better coral soon. Cheers!

Hi Shih87,

when you say "nutrient poorer system" you mean the system is lacking organic material that come from fish foods and other additives and corals foods or you mean it is very low in Phosphate and Nitrate. Whenever I see someone say Nutrient rich or poor I keep getting confused and don't know if they are talking about organic or Nitrate and Inorganic Phosphate.

thanks

I hope I can bring the color back soon. BTW, I found I start losing green color and some staghorn turn yellow green than bright green color before. I post my observation on zeovit.com and Alexander said that is typical on a nutrient poorer system. However, I am stretch my head that I did double feed my fish and 10 drops CV a day, and glass get dirty in 24 hours. Anyway, I will try to increase Iodine and lower carbon dosing to see what happen.

BTW, I will visit London next week (visit O2 Slough office actually)... Any suggested local fish store to spend time?

I'll ask my friends about the LFS in that area. You are welcome to visit me if you have time. I finish work late next week, but if you have time or drive, then come visit. :)

Regards GREEN colouration...same thing happened to my tank some months back. It coincided with me stupidly reducing nutrients quite aggressively. That time I ran GFO/GAC and then Zeolite for a few weeks. Most of the green pigment vanished. I think it was more when I introduced the Zeolite to be honest.

Eg my Strawberry Shortcake was 100% green with pink tips. Now its brown with some pink tips.

I think the Zeolite pulled some trace element or other compound from the water. I've been feeding like crazy to bring it back. So far, new acros with green pigment have maintained the green.

But the SSC is SLOWLY getting the green back. My SSC was looking so nice back then. :o

Regarding the green pigment: can you remember if you did anything specific just before the time you lost the pigment? Since I have the same problem, I think its worth trying to figure out if we both did something similar.

In fact, I am not sure my tank is so call "nutrient poorer system". It is just an advice that Alexandra reminded me what may happen (lost green pigment) in that kind of system. My PO4 reading yesterday is 0.01ppm (Hanna ULR), and NO3 is 0.25ppm (RedSea), no algae nor cyano.. N/P ratio looks good as my understanding

Anyway, I am definitely not running a nutrient rich system which maybe the only thing I do know :headwall blue:

Help me to figure out this and suggestions are welcome.

sahin, thanks for the invitation. I will PM you and let's figure out if we have chance to meet. I get out of work late as well.

Regarding "œZeolite""¦that is a good reminder, I did 20% more volume than last tank (now 1.3 Litter) since tank is 50% bigger than old tank. Zeolite may suck trace element quicker than I thought!? Will try to reduce some and see.

My description before may not precisely enough. I think my coral start lost some green pigment from the beginning of this tank setup. I realize that only after I add second green staghorn frag I had before (picked up from LFS that I kept there for over 6 months), and then found it turn yellow like first one in a month. Plus my Strawberry Shortcake never get greener after added them into my tank.

[side note"¦. I just remember that due to my Zeolite reactor pump broken and I added a newer one from Ehiem, maybe that increase Zeolite efficacy !? Hmmmm.. Need to check that"¦.]

June.2015 FTS

No coral dead during alkalinity correction but also no grow for entire month

A lot of T5 tubes, are you going to play around with T5 combo?

Also I see LED light in sump; is that for refugium? How does refugium run in Zeovit system? Or is it for growing frags?

I may stick with Coral Plus + Blue plus + Actinic.... but aquatic special may still give it a try....

The refugium on right side of the sump mainly use to grow macro algae, replace new live rock every 18 months, and set different light cycle to balance PH. Plus using it for 5% water change without necessary to turn of main pump (just cut off water to refugium during water change and replace new water to refugium).

The purple color LED is just used to help macro algae grow.

Hi shih87!

I stumbled upon this thread... First of all, I must say I admire your meticulous planning and design. And the final result indeed looks impressive and graceful!

It took me a while to find this winch capable to pull 100kg

I'm looking for a winch similar to the one you used in your build. Would you be so kind to provide some information about this winch? E.g. manufacturer & model, where can it be ordered online, etc. Any information would be helpful.

Many thanks in advance!

Ha... Many friends call me control freak, but I like your term "meticulous" better ;-)

The winch I choose is just regular winch used in electric curtains industry, you may search it from your local curtain maker I think. Mine was bought from Taiwan local store, but do let me know if you need more information.

Dinner with UK team before back to Taiwan. I bet Sahin know where it is.

Sorry we couldnt meet my friend. Next time for sure.

I hope you dear tank is ok when you get home. :)

Beautiful shot of your reef mate. That one where you guys are comparing skimmate samples is good but the guy back left needs to adjust his air flow i think. :reading:
Actinics are great i agree but not something that is needed at all when running 400W Radiums as i do.
