I just powered up my 250 12K for the first time tonight. Boy it does make the blue's pop!!!!! & the yellow & greens, & pink milli!

the bulb does seem pretty dull though. I'm hoping this is the screen & burn in period & it will get a bit more white after the screen is removed & things burn in.

You should not get any pink color from the Icecap ballast but if you are not getting the pink with Magnetic then I wouldn't switch.

You don't think it's worth the added PAR and efficiency to get the e-ballasts?

I don't know? Is the extra par worth it to you? How much more par is it? Me personally I am going to switch to 400w on one of my tanks for more par.

16 more PPFD? Don't know if it's worth it or not.

I tested a reeflux 250w 10k on a EVC electronic ballast yesterday.

It's a par monster for sure. 1400 par at a half inch under the water surface. 6 inches down I was getting over 1200 par and to the bottom of the tank i was getting 450 par. This was in a lumenmax 2 reflector.

I tested it in a spider and the par was 4x less. Also i have the 400w CV20k and it put out about 50 more par but looks a lot nicer than the 10k.

Guys,

I had a pretty bad case of the pink hue when I had the 400W Reeflux 10K. Do you think it's because of the PFO HQI ballast I used, or is it something the manufacturer corrected? Bulb was purchased in Feb. '06.

They were probably the bulbs you had. If you still have them, check and see if the inner bulb ends are coated in a white powder or if they are clear. Check back thru this thread for pictures of what I'm talking about. Supposedly the white coated bulbs were the "pink" ones.

your bulb is the 1st issue, i have yet to see the ones with white
coating like the regular coral vue bulbs,so this is what i think
the second issue looks like ,which is not pink on hqi or elect.
ballast.

Does that go for the 12k DE as well, or just the 10k?

i now run SE 12k reeflux (just switched from cv 14k) and DE reeflux 12k, all 250 watt, and the only difference i see is that two DE are slightly brighter than three SE. they are all on coralvue electronic ballasts.

very white with a tint of blue - no pink tint like i had from the 10k DE on the same ballast.

Okay, so the 2nd issue corrected the pink hue? Do you have an idea when these came out? Just want to be sure. I don't intend on running one anymore. I just get a ton of PM's about lighting, and want to be sure I relay the correct info.

Thanks!

Coralvure Reeflux 10K out of Blue Box and they put off a pink tint. They had the white ends. The newer release ones do not have the white ends that they just started putting out. Info was posted at reefexotics website just recently as to the ends on the new ones.
