Anybody using the Reeflux 12k 250watters on a Magnetic ballast?

I have used them on an electronic ballast and they are a lot better then my Pheonix 14K.

I will be using them on my mag ballast in a couple of months.

LittleBlueGT

When you say better, can you please explain what makes it better?

When I got the Pheonix I really liked their color, still do.

The 12k coralvues are crisper and they actually flouresce a lot of my corals. ie: I have a yellow stag with green polyps. In order to see the green polyps you have to look for them. With the 12k they jumped right out at you.

I would say 80% of my corals looked marginally to much better under them, 10% looked the same, and 10% looked a little worse.

Is it more Blue or less blue than the Phoenix?

Is the 12k any brighter than the Phoenix?

hard to say, I never ran side-by-side. Only tested them in my frag tank to make sure they worked. I tested them each for about a week.

I would say it is maybe a bit brighter, a crisper look, like a little less dull blue (450nm) and a little more flouresce blue, like (430nm) if that makes sense.

Like a 10k with 6 VHO actinics.

I am currently running a 250W DE 14K Phoenix on my Giesemann NOVA II (pendant+ballast-->electronic I suppose) over my 60gal reef-cube, supplied by 2 T5 blue actinics (not pure actinics)!
Blues and greens seem quite vibrant, though I am suspecting that the overall look is somewhat dull...somewhat unnatural or whatever

What do you think about a migration to a 10K RL on this ballast for some 4-5months and a subsequent switch to a 12K RL?
Is it worth experimenting?

Or should I go to the Giesemann Coral 14K bulb....?

I have the Giesemann 13K and it is almost identical to my AB10K and my Ushiou10K and my BLV 10K. The Coralvue 12K is awesome vs all of the bulbs I have ever tried which also includes the Pheonix 14K.

LittleBlueGT, R U talking about the "Marine" or the "Coral" Giesemann bulb???

The Marine, which comes by default with the NOVA II pendant, is great, but only with blue actinic supplementation. Otherwise, it is quite yellowish to my eyes...

I don't rmember it was just their 23K DE 250 Watt replacement bulb, and yes I found it quite yelow.

so I have read over this thread and am wondering if there is a consensus about these bulbs. I was considering switching from xms 250 watts and over the course of this thread I have been going back and forth. Ultimately I am leary of these. It seems many people have had to send theres back or got mismatched bulbs or just had problems. With xm at least so far I am confident that I know what to expect when I use them. I run ice cap ballasts. Do reds and pinks really turn blue? Has that happened consistently for most users of these? I love my pinks and reds. Assuming that I got a good pair could I expect that dramatic of a shift? I have to ask people who have switched from xm's, are you glad you did and will you be buying reeflux the next time you need new bulbs? If it's not to much to ask Why?

Thanks

I went form 10k XM to 10k Reeflux and I will never go back to the XM's.... None of my reds turn blue at all, but all my blues are looking great right now, esp from the top view.....

When you order your bulbs, just tell the place to make that all the inner blubls have the clear housing not the white one like you see in the picture in this thread....

Nick

Thanks, That was what I was hoping to hear. Red's turning blue just seemed pretty extreme. I think I may try them. Anyone else not turning back?

Please, excuse me if I set a repeated question...

Does the same (this about the clear vs white housing) apply to the Reeflux DEs???

And finally talking about RL-DEs, which spectrum/colour temp. would you suggest, guys?

Thx in advance! ;)
