did the reeflux 12ks get brighter during burn in?

Since I don't have Lux or Par meter I don't really have a way to know for sure that they get brighter duringg burn in. I will say they get "nicer" looking after burn-in. Less "blue" and more "balanced" but still with an obvious blue tone. Nice color.

I replaced a 150w de p14 with the RL 10k and like the color alot better.

The 150w de hqi was really dull and i had no growth in the tank . With the reefclux it's brighter and i'm getting some decent growth and better color from everything :)

can anyone compare the 250 12ks to hamilton 14's on ice caps in terms of brightness and blueness? And do the 12k's do for blues what the 10k's do? I am starting to like the 10k but the hint of blue I was hoping for just isn't there. The 12's seem like the answer but I would hate to give up the quality of the 10k's that make the blues look so good.

Well it's been some time since I posted to this thread. I've been running 250w RL 10k's on IC ballasts for 14 months and received a new pair Saturday.

I have to say the "new" or second generation or whatever you want to call it is not the same lamp I've been using. My original bulbs had the slightly pink hue many of you report and I assume was associated with the large spike at 590nm and 670nm. The new bulbs are definitely blue/white... no hint of pink or yellow whatsoever. They are also not as bright as the "old" bulbs. It appears I will not have to raise my fixture or modify my photoperiod at all while replacing 14 month old bulbs with new ones :(... My guess is whatever changes were made to eradicate the pink spectrum also diminished the PAR significantly.

IMHO the data on Sanjays site when he tested the Coralvue RL bulbs 18 or so months ago can't be valid anymore... The original PPFD was 86 on an IC ballast and I can't believe it's anywhere near that high anymore. The original CCT was appx 16K and if that was accurate then... these look [to my eye anyway] like at least 18 or 20K [CCT]

As for the look... the color is spot on. The tank looks fantastic with no actinic supplementation at all, could be brighter though for a 10K. It will be interesting to see how the blues color with the new bulbs, I'm a little concerned that the pink hue I had to grow accustomed to with the "old" bulbs may also be partially responsible for the crazy blues you could get.

Just my observations... I'll post again after 100 hours burn in. I've only run them now for 2 days :)

Can you do a side by side pic of the old and the new? I also have the first batch of RL 10K's, about 12 months old now and want to get some new bulbs. If you say they are not as good, I might go back to the Hami's.

Thanks
Bryan

I recieved what I was lead to believe were the new batch of 10k's with the clear arc tube and they still have a trace of pink to them on ice caps. Not blue at all. After about two weeks.

After so much dissatisfied remarks, it is amazing that people are still buying these bulbs. Turn the bulb this way so the nipple is facing blah blah blah, get the ones with the clear end of the inner tube, blah blah blah. You are not supposed to use HQI ballasts, they will void the warranty. blah blah blah. If the bulbs don't fire up with the electronic ballasts, try firing them up with a HQI ballasts (according to coralvue from what I read somewhere here)blah blah blah.

Come on now people. Enough is enough. I have to say I am, or should I say, I was a "proud" owner of these bulbs. I used it for less than a month and now it has been in the closet for more than 6 months.

You still have them? If so what wattage and k rating are they? Might be willing to take them off your hands if you're interested.

Thanks,

Josh

For 175 watt Venture Bulb replacement, what are the opinions on the Reeflux bulbs vs. the Iwasaki 15ks?

Dave

I decided to go with the 12k Reeflux. I want a bluer look and I didn't want to double my PAR and have to deal with screens or adjusting the photoperiod or height for 3-4 weeks.

Great info guys, I'm going from my Hammy 14k - a reeflux 10k I was going to use a XM10k but the par is close on a EVC ballast amd the coralvue 10k seems to look really good from the pics on here.

Just bought 2 x 400 ReefLux 10,000K from Reef Exotics - $120 with overnight shipping included in that price!!! Awesome deal!!!

Anyway, these will be run on dual PFO HQI ballast with 2 x 110 VHO URi Super Actinics...

All this over my 120 SPS bb....

Will post before and after pics for color comparison.

Current is 2 x 250 DE HQI Ushio 10K's w/the actinics....

mwood - exactly...I should photo my tank now w/the Ushio 10K's (250 DE on HQI) and no actinics....and then the same when the 400 SE HQI Reeflux 10K's arrive.

Pitstop, you ever get those bulbs?

Here's my tank with CVR 10k's mixed with EVC14k's. They look white/purple/pink in person. Alot better then the yellow cast the back of my tank used to have under EVC14k's with XM10k's.

Ewww...how old are those 10k bulbs? Mine don't look anything like that. Mine have a crisp white with the slightest hint of blue.

I've got two 250 SE ordered that will be here today. I will be running them on an EVC e ballast. I'll post my experience with them here.
