Anyone want to go collecting on wed afternoon? Titusville

I figure this might be a good start for us locals to not end up in the situation as other locals! (thats for seth again). But also so I dont end up getting things, setting up a qt, finding out they are bad and then having to take them all the way back (and take care of them in between). Might even try to pick up an under water disposable camera.

I went out today for the 2 hours before low tide in the afternoon. Found a HUGE amount of urchins, hermit crabs, small black and yellow striped small fish, gobies, 3 types of crabs, 2 types of snail as well as some fish that I could not seem to catch (black spot on tail) and algaes. Took pics and will eventually put them up so we can figure what everything is! Was really nice out there!

The small black and yellow striped are Seargant Majors. One of the snails was most likely a nassarius vibex. They are very common there.

There were not only black urchins, but several shades of burgandy/bright pink/purple. Many shades I didnt even know existed.

On a side note, there is an article I found not to long ago explaining how bad the urchins are actually overtaking the reefs along the coast. In the keys where the reefs are plentiful, they are needed, but up along the coast where the reefs are sparse they are actually smothering the reefs. Just an interesting fact. :P

do you snorkel or scuba? west palm is by far the best! it has stuff you actually would want to put into your tank :-) - its alot more fun! - your welcome to go the next time we actually go. i am going for scuba next time then to collect but there is just so much cool stuff! we need to do a diving trip to sab inlet some time and try it out though - it was the place that started it all for us

I am certified and still have my gear...but my bc doesnt really fit anymore...... I dont get a lot of time off, so day trips are all I really find time to do.

I have been a couple of places in the keys that were 10-15 ft and loved just being able to "troll" for what seemed like hours. A day dive like that would be great.
