Giesemann Lighting Club.

Want to go for a Giesemann Matrixx II Dimtec and doubt between the 4x54W, 6x54W or 8x54W for a Red Sea Reefer 450.
Length wise it is ok, but my tank is only 20" wide, so the 8x54W would be overkill?
On the other hand it give me the possibility for upgrading in a later moment to wider tank.
Any way, what is your recommendation for Giesemann bulbs for the 4 or 6 bulb setup?
I like the balanced look of white and blue. Tank is mainly SPS (now lit by Kessil A360WE)

Hi all, Im wondering if the 60" giesemann aurora hybrid 4x80W T5 + 4 x 75W led would be enough light over a 72x32x28 sps dominated tank.

Hi Zacktosterone.
I am waiting for my custom 40x30x20(tall) to be built :bounce2:
I have been going back and forth between the 8x39 ATI Hybrid and the 24" Spectra for some time now. I prefer the Spectra but fear it may be lacking JUST a bit when it comes to covering the 40" side.

The removable cover-box behind the tank makes the full cabinet length exactly 48", so I figured if I could move one reflector forward and somehow blind the far end of the T5 it could look OK with the 48 Spectra.

At one point, I want max coverage but at the same time I really hate light spills, so I guess 48 is not the best option... but I am toying around with the idea regardless :)

The 24" Spectra would look far superior from a "furniture design" point of view though. Happy wife = more coral$

EDIT:
2x 24" units turned 90 degrees would be better than a slightly modified 48", but both the initial cost and the bulb replacement cost would be higher. (But if I start with the single 24" then at least I have this as a back-up plan)

Paal,

I'm building a 42X24X22 tank and am also considering the 24" spectra. I have seen pictures where it does a good job spreading light to a 36X30X20 (or there about) and so I may try this out on my future tank. The main reason for wanting to go with one halide for me is heat. The tank will be in a small room. I will then consider adding light on the sides of the fixture with two Kessils (either 160WE or 360s). Let me know what you end up doing.

I really like the Spectra models to open it up to some other bulb choices (SE). Now all i need is the budget for the 48" model.....

I will send you a PM once I decide. At the moment I am 66% 8x39 ATI / 33% 24" Spectra, but that changes every day :P

For the ATI the 30" depth worries me, and for the Spectra its the 40" length :)

For a while now i added a kessil 160w to my Infiniti 48" and i finally got around to adding the second one, I am sure glad i did. The shimmer when they are on with the t5's is absolutely amazing. I have them turned down when I have the halids running throughout the day. I am going to dial them back to 4 hours with summer fast approaching.
Before

I had to find away to include the power supply to both LED lights, so i strapped them into the middle in between the MH bulbs

I used these "bridges" not sure what the proper name is to provide power from one cord to both kessil power units.

Final test run before reassembly.

I know there is low lighting, but this is the final product after the kessils are installed.

Everything is controlled from my apex to control the intensity and color of the kessils within the fixture. So i al had to run a long "audio" from the variable input to the kessil

Final tank shot with a 4ft fixture on a 5ft tank with only the kessils lit.

I am happy with the results to take advantage of all the newer technologies!

Looks really nice. But why not put one in the middle where the most shade is?

The spectra will look sweet over that tank though and the shimmer will be awesome....

Anybody know how to get the T5 ballasts out of a Spectra fixture? I'm having the hardest time. They aren't screwed. It looks like they are glued down. Any help?

The middle is where all the wiring in, plus the 160we provide plenty of light in the middle, the leds are only supplemental to go along with mh and t5

They are siliconed down. I took a couple off a few weeks back to replace with ATI ballasts and LEDs. :D

Get a breadknife or a thin chisel underneath. The silicone holds pretty tight so some force is needed.

Why is it so hard to find information about the new Giesemann Vervee?

It looks like it is better built than Radion...

But no one seems to know much about them.

Chris,

What is the max spread of the new Giesemann Vervve? I am looking for a light to go over my 30"x20"x8" frag tank.

I currently use the Giesemann Spectra with Radium on M80 and 2 blue+, 2 actinic for supplement. I really love the color I get with and without halide. The corals look amazing at all times. However, I need a light that will give me both growth and some color. I can give up a bit of color for some growth if need be. If I go with metal halide it will be a stand alone bulb and not supplemented.

Should I be looking at LEDs, strictly t5s, or metal halide to fit this demand?

It was just released..
It actually is the first stand alone led fixture that has caught my attention.

What you have should be fine.. You lack growth and color I would look else where.

The light you have is the best combination you will find, by far. T5/halide combo is tge bees knees. If your growth is lacking, you need to look at your water quality.

My guess is that your growth is pretty typical, especially if you have mosrly frags. It can taje months to a year for some frafs to take off.

Take pictures. You look at your tank everyday. You don't notice small changes day to day and thus, your coral don't appear to be changing.

Yes, same question - I am looking at two for my 60" long x 18" wide x 26" deep (24" deep with 2" sand bed) tank.

Yes, this one is at the very top of my list also.
