How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

admission is bringing beer... I've driven longer on wild goose chases... come on over

I've been hanging around and keeping up with this thread since I stumbled on it a week or so ago. I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope your health continues to improve.
If I did'nt live so damn far away I'd be there in a flash, 6 hrs is about my limit on impulse but I'm afraid you're more like 3 days, and that my friend, is simply out of the question.

It had failed completly... for the 7th time. They finally gave up and replaced the entire computer. After a month of BS it finally showed up today. Therefore... I think I get to have an update...

heres some misc. tank shots so I can go clean the tank enough to take pics through the glass. These are from when I tore the sump apart to get an eyelash blennie out of it. He got back down there the next day. I'm not getting him out again.

weird red macro that seems to love growing in my sump.

top down shot in my cryptic zone. I think stuff is growing faster in there than in the main tank. The greyish blue sponge is much more blue in real life.

I've gotta say I love having a sump on a cement floor with a drain. much easier after making a mess tearing sothing apart.

all empty, though murky. I couldn't believe how many critters and such were swimming around in there even with the columbian sharks in there.

still took 20 mins to catch the dang fish

Back to the main tank..

Caught the chilli coral open..

firstsetphotos004.jpg

first day after my upgraded clean up crew went in... couldn't see through there at all when they started.

firstsetphotos003.jpg

hippo tang is finally over his shyness. Doesn't care for the calupra taking over my tank.. (I've since ripped out alot of it.)

firstsetphotos005.jpg

Hey, theres that missing zoo frag.

firstsetphotos006.jpg

and last but not least. My latest headache. Emerald crabs seem to have a taste for spray foam that holds all my rockwork together.

OK, I'm off to try and get it clean enough for a FTS...

WEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....Loving the ride along...All caught up on the reading and waiting for the new updates..=)

Mr K? Im loving that algae you have in the above pic. Ive got two sprigs on a frag plug Im hoping will turn into that one day. Patience is a virtue!

How are you feeling these days? Hope you are recovering with minimal issues. I was quite sad to read of your troubles with your health.

Doing pretty well. I keep having annoying reminders that I'm not quite my old self at work. Mostly I still can't walk more than about 50 yards, and I really have to watch pulling on wrenches. I think I loosened one of the screws in my chest last week, but it hurts less this week and I am not doing any more doctor time than I have to. I am sick of them.

That macro seems to thrive on being ignored. I'm not even sure where it came from, just noticed it on that rock in my old tank, and tossed it in the sump.

now, for some updates... LOL

Some misc shots of the tank from tonight.

Its almost starting to look like a reef in there from this angle.. (side shot)

I can't decide if this is just a sponge, or if something lives in there.

I can not seem to find a spot in the tank to make this guy happy

No idea what this is. I think its a bit that tore off some other softie in there and is growing on its own... I have it somewhere easy to watch now at least. What I think is cool is that apperently somewhere down the line that rock got a clam as well. (It's just to the right of the white blob)

getting lots of coraline growth everywhere. Not dosing anything, or doing waterchanges at the moment. Must be doing something right.

My worm forest...

giant tube worms growing on this coral. They put out a cool web and catch food with it. At least I assume thats what they are doing. Not sure if I should kill them or not.

I really need to do something with the flow in the cave... but I haven't figured out something that won't annoy me looking at it yet. I tried having a powerhead on the front glass, but it drove me nuts.

soon to be a quarantine tank. Anyone need a HOB filter, I was sorting all my fish junk.

DSC09710.jpg

fuge. Needs more macros.

DSC09711.jpg

the columbian cat sharks, just waiting for dinner.

DSC09715.jpg

good sized feather duster that decieded to grow on the powerhead

DSC09716.jpg

and of course... Bioballs in the sump. This is a how not to build thread. I found them cleaning up and didn't know where else to put them so my dog wouldn't eat them

DSC09717.jpg

and lastly.... a full tank shot. I litterally have to go outside to get this shot through the window of the wall I put in. I can't get far enough back in my fish room with the couch there.

and Spike is still not impressed.

Oh my! Loving how you "fanned" the rock work....Kind of looks like one big huge starfish in your tank hosting smaller life.......The tube worms you were talking about that send out a web of sorts...I have one in my daughter's 45 thats been in there since its conception and it hasnt done anything but catch stuff floating in the water. If I could get my hands on 100 of those, I would fill the bottom and scatter the tank with them....they catch an unbelievable amount of stuff. Since I dont dose my tanks with anything, rather, I disturb the sandbed to feed things, this tube worm is a happy camper when I do it because this webbing stretches halfway across the tank....they bring what they catch back in their tube and I guess feed off what they caught. I would say they are keepers...........=) Ive never seen anything come out of one, so I couldnt tell you what lives in there, I just know I wouldnt mind having many more of them.

Screw loose? Who doesnt have one or two of those.....lol...I knew whatcha meant

Cmon Mr Ocean, dont be landing yourself back into the hospital...K? =)

I have an idea....why not everyone on here that has been keeping up with this donate one thing to this tank? I would like to donate something. Mr K could put up a list of what he wants and with each acquired piece he could list the ones he already had donated that way no one would send replicas, or more than he would want.

I have an RE Superman Monti I will donate. Would love to see it in this tank, if the Mister should want it.

My apologies if this has been suggested before. If it has, I didnt see it.

BUt anyway....How about it? =)

There are half a dozen or so livestock plans... I'll know more when I finally place an order...

I do like the sailfin tangs, and there will most likely be a couple of those as well as a couple more hippos, Maybe a Naso or the like as well. A pair of crosshatch triggers, and a bunch of shrimp gobies are as close to planning as I get.

btw lovinlife, i didn't mean that last post in a bad way... that is very generous of you

i just meant he has a lot of work on his hands

Oh! I know, dont sweat it...If I lived anywhere near him, I would be over there in a New York minute helping him clean. I know all too well about having a person close, near and Dear with heart problems. Lost my Dad that way. He died at work on his couch with his nitro in his hand.

But enough about the D word. Just take it easy Mr K

It would be a pretty nice thing if a team could get together and go help the guy out. I know people have their own lives and stuff........but......... jess sayin....=)~
