How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

Do you know what your phosphates and nitrates run? Thats awesome how fast your coraline grows, and its solid purple, i have marco rocks in my tank and have had it going for 4 months and all i am getting is some yellow patches and very few tiny purple spots

I virtually never test anything except salinity. Partly because of the tremors in my hands, and partly because I'm lazy.

THe neibor kid came over and tested everything once and it was a little wonkey... but alot of that was residual from tearing apart my sand bed I assume.

I think my tank is actually liking SPS...

Thought this was dead (or close to it) when I put it in... started looking ok after a week..

3 weeks later, its almost looking happy... and has grown a bit...

Khaosic it seems like a life time ago I say you use foam to create your rock work I thought you had gone off the deep end all that yellow next to your rock looked like s...t yet now every time you take a shoot of the tank it all looks great. So the coraline seems to like the foam allot now I think your a genius in training lol ,any way have you had any problems with it I can't see like pealing, falling apart, floating, etc. Also it seemed you used both a yellow and a black foam any differences in out come? Thanks for the thread.

I've used both foams in the build, and other than the crabs nibbling at it if it grows any hair algea I don't have any real issues. I do have a couple of corners I didn't have supported as well as I should have and theres a couple inch gap away from the wall, but the fish like hiding there at night, and its an entire ecosystem I like to watch so I've left it.

Once in a while a piece will appear floating in the sump. usually having been nipped off my the Emerald crabs. its full of little bugs and things. I'm convinced that foam works just like live rock after a year or two.

cool I have had a glass 125 for many years but one of the seams is leaking I find salt creep down the joint every other day. So I am buying a used 300 acrylic tank and want to try the foam when I set the rock up. I really like the cave you made like I said I can't tell the difference between your foam parts and the rock. keep your powder dry.

khaosinc tank looks great!, ive been tagging along in the thread since the beginning but havent said anything till now

Triggers are doing great. Interesting compitition who is more of a pig, the Sailfin or the male trigger. Female isn't shy either...

Puffer is a pig as well. Makes it hard to feed the Eel unless I have him so full he can't move. Growing in nicely. Angel is as well. isn't eating any of the softies in there yet...

I have a 180 reef and a 144 1/2 circle FOWLR tank. I also have a snowflake eel, DF puffer, niger trigger, and green bird wrasse.
I have to create a diversion and throw food in one corner while I feed the eel in the other. The trigger and wrasse are always trying to steal the food off my feeding stick for the eel. He is getting faster at grabbing though.
My puffer and eel hang out together alot. They like to spoon. :lolspin:

Everything is still going well... just haven't been up to much lately. Waiting on parts for my experimental LED lighting, and feeding the fish.

Had to turn my brain off for a while.. life got to complicated. I do so prefer my private little world/ecosystem to trying to function in real life.

I have always enjoyed the idea of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, yet having walked through the valley a few times( or I should say ran through) it seems to me mentally I'm stronger but the body that entered the valley is not the body that dragged its sorry self out the other side and that sucks the don...y d...k big time. IMO

Part of my problem is that to be blunt, one of the few things left that kept me sane was working. I've never been the most "stable" of people. 60 hour work weeks were almost like time off for other projects. I'm not very social, and don't deal with stress or crowds well, so I really have no idea what to do with myself other than talk to my dogs, and try and find things to putter with.

Been repainting my house for fun... kinda accidently painted my dog blue as well..

actually she just lay in the corner I just painted... but same thing.

Ever notice how corals you don't really care about thrive, while things you actually like don't do as well...

there was 1-2 polyps on the frag this toadstool came on. Didn't think much of them and shoved the mount in a hole in the rock... they seem to be happy enough..

These I actually like.. Been in the tank just as long, if not longer. Same thing couple of polyps, within a couple inches of each other as far as depth in the tank, and similar flow..

the fire clown is having a happy time... swear that 'nem has gotten bigger...

and a side note. Found Eel jerky behind the sump... not sure how the snowflake got out.

the dwarf golden moray is still doing well, or at least I do see his head pop out now and then... not that he does it when I have a camera out...
