If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi all. I've posted a few times in the Mantis Shrimp board, but figured i should introduce myself to the rest of RC. My name's Colin, and i've got a 20 gallon minireef with Neogonodactylus wennerae (as of thursday) and a few fish and corals.

Just got the first post up with videos on a blog i set up for the wennerae at Stomatopods.blogspot.com

Thanks for all the valuable posts, guys.

Starting a saltwater tank for first time.

Starting a saltwater tank for first time.

Hi my name is Dave i have been doing freshwater tanks for about 10 years now. I am finally going to try a saltwater setup for the first time. I plan on setting up a in wall 90-125gal Saltwater Fish/Live Rock tank. Again i am new to saltwater tanks so im am still in the research stage at this time. Any suggestions for a first time saltwater setup will be greatly appreciated, and I hope to get alot of good info from RC. :)

Hello Everyone,
I'm a newbie so thought i should introduce myself. I have just purchased a Nano Reef tank and am figuring this whole aquarium thing out as I go along so bare with me if I ask what seems to be a silly question.

Gotta start somewhere right?

Some of my favorite aquariums tanks and marine stuff

I just joined RC a week or so ago and im happy to say i'm learning alot!

I have been in the saltwater world for a while now just over 6 years and before that i raised show qualty bettas and guppies! The saltwater bug hit me and im hooked! I down graded all of my freshwater tanks over time and now i have ZERO (0) freshwater tanks at the moment their all full of saltwater critters...

Here's what i have without boring everyone with the specifics...

I have a 125 gallon reef/livestock tank with several small coral frags from pulsating xenias to the most rare and expensive frag in my collection a RED SYMPHYLLIA WILSONI!! I have a total of 47 frags in this tank and 12 fish including clowns, lion fish, puffers, and a small hammer head that im hold onto for a buddy (which he needs to come get because he's growing pretty quick)....

I also have a 100 gallon seahorse tank! I love this tank because there's so much color!! I have a bunch or gorgonians (sp.?) and fan corals in with these guys and galls and they seem to be thriving! I have reidi horses in this particular tank and currently have 27 adults and hundreads of fry in grow out tanks and keisel set-ups.

I also have a 75 gallon seahorse tank set-up with southern erectus horses. This tank also has gorgonians and sea fans as well. I have 23 adults in this tank and at last count 57 colts of the erectus.

I also have a 55 gallon show tank with alot of variety in it... I have some clowns, some tangs, some lion fish, some damsels, an eel, and a few horses in this set-up along with a few corals.

I also have several 10 and 20 gallon tanks with dwarf seahorses and these guys grow like guppies! I started out with 5 pairs from ccritters.com and have bought several more from them, but i currently have over 100 adults and 2-300 babies!

I also have a few 29 gallons full of phytoplankton water for the dwarfs seahorses... along with 8-10 gallons tanks set-up for daily brine shrimp hatching to feed the dwarf seahorses...

So thats pretty much my addiction and hopefully you enjoyed! I would post a few pictures, but not sure how exactly yet on this website... Thanks!!

IMO you are starting out right with a FOWLR tank{fish only with live rock}
This will give you time to learn about cycling, filtration and water chemistry before you possilby go to a mixed reef with corals

wow--how about starting your own thread and posting some pictures of your tanks

best thing to do is use photo bucket which is free, you can then transfer photos to photo bucket from your pc, and use the copy and paste facillity which is really simple.

you could also go to your rc and download photos straight to your gallery, then post a link to that

Cool ill see what i can do to get some pictures on here! I am also going to start a 55 gallon reef build, maybe i'll post that as well. Thanks for all the info!

it would be nice to follow any thread you create about your 55, please pm me a link if you start one :)

Hello

Hello

Hello, my name is Mike. I live in sunny S Fla, well sunny till about 2 - 3pm then rain out of no where!! haha
Anyway I had a 55g when I lived with my GF about 2 yrs ago. I loved that 55g so much i bought a custom 60x18x24 glass tank with center overflow. Thank god I waited to set it up till I got out of that crazy place! LOL
But I am ready now and I just purchased a 30g refugium, UV Sterilizer, Aqua Medic Protein Skimmer and I have 5 T12 VHOs running off of one 430 and one 660 ice cap ballast.
My plan is to do a FOWLR tank. I want a good amount of rock maybe 150 to 200 lbs. I want some clowns (and some anemonies for them) , tangs and maybe a couple other fish. But my best friend wants to get a small shark. I plan to arrange the rock so there are a bunch of holes and swim paths at the bottom of the tank. Is this possible? Is there a shark I can get that will work good in this tank? My friend thought maybe a Bamboo Shark or a Marbled Cat Shark. Thank you for all your help with this!!!!

I also have another question about setting up the live rock but I will post another thread on that one :)
