[welcome]

I would like to see what your 125 mixed reef looks like. If you would, start a thread, just make sure you take lots of pictures.

Sister, i will be sure to do that, I have TONS of picture on my local forum. :) I will just have to take some new ones as i just got 40 new SPS coral:)

Hey, my name is Amos, I have a 55 that I've used for cichlids the past 8yrs, but I'm finally setting up SW. Current equipment: 300W & 100W heaters, 2 powerheads, old HOT power filter (for circulation), seaclone skimmer, 100GPD RO/DI, 2X T8 bulbs, ~4" sandbed, and ~ 55# dried out live rock that's being seeded with 30# live sand and 15# live rock. I'm just filling it up tonight, which is going to take a while cause I can only go as fast as my RO unit. I'm going to be starting out FOWLR for now ( because of the lighting), but will hopefully get the lighting upgraded and start a mixed reef around Xmas. I originally bought the tank for salties so I'm pretty excited to finally be using it that way!

I know how slow that water comes out of the RODI, be glad you only have a 55 and not a 200 gallon. ;)

Hi, thought I'd finally post in here since I'm finally done with my cycle, and have been mooching information for about 2 months without giving back. I'm getting into this for the 2nd time (the first time I failed miserably; no patience/not doing research/bad setup etc...) So I'm back for the long haul, this time a hopefully just a little wiser, and dedicated to learning more every day. Here's the fully cycled 125 gal tank and sump pics:

Greetings to all...My name is Stephen and live in North part of Fort Worth, Texas. I am interested in doing a reef tank and in the research phase. I have years worth of exp. in freshwater but want a saltwater now. Not sure what size to get. Really just started. Any good retail stores in the DFW area? Thanks to everybody contributing to this forum. Wish me luck.

Back Again So Kinda New

Back Again So Kinda New

After 6 years of no reef tanks, I'm back!
Just bought a 55 gallon complete setup with sump for $300 yesterday, so I'll be on here asking questions about setting up a sump later LOL.

BigDaddyPea, we're in East Fort Worth. The guy I bought the tank from on Craig's list had 6 in his garage & at least 3 in his house. I think he had 3 for sale yesterday, several sizes. You might want to search Craig's List. Lots of stores in the DFW area, but I don't know the good ones in this area, so I'll be learning them too! He did tell me he had a friend who just got started with a coral business after the one he worked at folded, so when I find it & check it out I'll let ya know!

Hi,
Been on RC awhile but haven't posted much. Just been expanding my knowledge base by lurking. Anyway I just started a 180 reef tank that was a replacement for a 72 bowfront. I've been doing the saltwater thing off and on for about 10 years now. Any other folks around the Eastern NC area here?

Algae Bloom

Algae Bloom

Having a diatom bloom, dont know how to get rid of it... Parameters are good, corals and fish are thriving, but tank sand and live rock look ugly... Tank up and running about 3 months I know it's still cycling but was hoping that its not gonna crash....

Hi y'all new to the forum. Current setup up is a 55 reef tank. Relatively new the saltwater scene. after having fresh for years it was time to change.

Hi everyone im Zack im new to salt water fish tanks, but ive had fresh water for a couple years now and will be starting up a 30g nano in the next week!

Just jumped in...

Just jumped in...

Hello, I've been keeping fresh water aquariums off and on for over 30 years. Just took my first leap into salt.

I have set up a 60 gallon tank. I have a Whisper 60 (I know, why?), a Fluval 305, Ehiem 2227 Wet/Dry, 2 small 750 gph hydor koralia pumps, T5 HO lighting (4 bulbs), 50 pounds of live sand, 45 pounds of live rock.

It's populated with two damsels and two clowns and a banded coral shrimp. I am fighting a nitrate issue now, expected because the tank is so new, about 6 weeks old.

I know I need to get a protein skimmer soon. Trying not to break the bank right away. Lighting was bad enough.

Water changes are done (2 6 gallon changes so far) with RO/DI water and Instant Ocean salt. Top offs with RO/DI.

Looking forward to learning! I eventually want corals but right now its FOWLR.

Not too familiar with that particular filter, however depending on what direction you're going I would suggest abandoning the idea of a wet/dry and go with a sump/refugium. This way you will allow for your live rock to handle the biological filtration.

you have a great hobbyist in your area named Marc aka melev. Here is his website he's a wealth of knowledge.

See you both are in a great area, on melev site he has the fundamentals of sumps, how to build them, how they work etc.

WELCOME BACK.

Not too familiar with that area but I can point you in the direction. RC has a section for local clubs you may get lucky and find what you're looking for.
