James404's 225g+ SPS Dominant

I'll be doing something similar soon. I'm going to be running some plumbing under the house. I think the supports that currently exist under the house are sufficient. I've looked at them already, but I'm going to get a second opinion.

Have fun crawling under the house...

Yep thats where I gotta go to run the plumbing as well, its gonna be really tight under there.

I'm sure the joists are sufficient in terms of load but I worry more about bouncing when walking near the tank, the floor sagging and drywall cracking etc.. I plan on using these:

only $29 each, should be well worth the piece of mind.

I was thinking about something just like that but haven't looked into it. Thanks for the info. Do you use a wrench to adjust the height? I was going to get some concrete blocks to put under them. What was your plan? I'm hoping I can avoid this, but I might do it anyway. Going to get someone to take a look under the house for another opinion, then make a decision.

I need to schedule my electrician to do the wiring upgrade. I'm going to get him to run (2) dedicated 20A breakers with GFI's. Do you have a backup power plan? Generator?

That stand looks really good James. Cant wait to see a tank sitting on it. Crawling under the house doesn't look like fun though.

Yep they just get turned with a wrench to adjust, they have them in all different sizes. I am planning on tightening them right up to the floor joists, 2x4's could be placed in between as well.

I will most likely only be using an APC battery backup to operate the heater and voretechs in case of power failure. I may look into a generator in the future as well. We don't lose power too often here though luckily. Are you going to be running a genny?

I actually just spoke to my electrician the other day too, I plan on adding aditional circuits in the fish room since there is only one outlet in there at the moment.

Thanks Brett, Its not going to be fun at all, I thought I would be able to open that hole up more but its really not possible. Luckily I'm not a big guy, just gotta watch my weight for a little while :D

We seem to lose power often enough to cause issues. The real problem is once 2 or 3 years, we might be out for 24 - 48hrs. I'd like to get a big one to support the key parts of the house, too. We'll see, that'd be quite an investment.

I thought about strapping the floor supports together with a 2x6. I've been told that can add alot more strength than one would think. Keeps things from twisting. Also makes a better spot to put the jack under. Easy enough. Something to consider since you'll be under the house anyway.

Just found your thread! Congrats on your upcoming baby, your new house, and your new tank. It was nice meeting you on Saturday. Hope you like the efllo....

Thank you very much Harry, it was nice meeting you too. Love the efflo, it seems to be settling in nicely :)

The stand and canopy both look great! As for crawling under the house, all I can think is: "ahh, the things we do for our tanks . . . ." :)

And I say that as someone who drilled three holes through the dining room wall and wired up 24 outlets over the weekend! It's a pain, but it will all be worth it when the tank is running.

The stand looks great! Hope mine turns out looking as nice.

Thank you for sharing this. I'll need to do the exact same w/ my build.

No tank yet? Be sure to post some pictures of it and their custom glass holes overflow when you get it. I'm thinking about getting one of those too.

Nice cabinet!

Thanks guys, no tank yet, should hopefully be built soon. It wont have the custom glass holes overflow with the integrated return, I had bought a regular one from a member on here before I ordered the tank so will be using that.

Are you coming south to pick up the tank or having Felix deliver it? If you do come south drop by the FMAS forum here on RC and look us up, we could do a quick hop around some of the local shops before you head back north, a little southern hospitality.

Wish I could go down to pick it up, unfortunately I gotta pay the freight. I really appreciate the offer though :)

great build so far that's a nice skimmer you got is that a 5000 if so i run the same on my system it's a beast can't go wrong with it good luck with the build

Oh well =)

Tagging along on this build, maybe if I ever make it back to NY I will give you a shout ;)

Sounds good!

Its actually the 3000 external model, I went back and forth between the 5000 and 3000, after speaking with Mike at Reef Specialty we decided the 3000 would be perfect for my needs.

Nice build! Wish I had skill on wood working like you. Canopy and stand came out nice and your skimmer looks like a killer!
