NICE thread cully... and WOW, these zoas are AMAZING! Toronto, here I come! :D

Not sure what I started here??? But seems to have struck a nerve.

My LFS just got a bunch of these, running them for about a buck a polyp I regrettably only grabbed this one. I'm gonna head back over there today see whats left.

my wife doesn't have a macro lens for her camera, but i'll see what i can come up with for pictures from my tank. I think everytime I dive out here I see some sort of new color pattern on zoanthids.. I am luckily stationed on okinawa.. great diving pretty much year round

I paid $15/5-polyp frag at our last swap. They all got fungus & are gone now.

same here

$50 bux for silly "named" 5 Polyps??? ... you can get over 30 to 40++ polyps for Cdn$55 bux!! And nobody wants 'em .. now that they're so readily available. Too many selections ..... for example Bright Yellow Zoas .... :eek1:

To bad that aint the case here in the US.

What's the survival rate on these wild colonies? They don't look very healthy in the photo's posted. Does anyone have a healthy frag of them?

Agreed. It's hard to get decent zoas at all, much less deepwater/Japanese zoas, around here unless I trade with local reefers. My lfs don't carry anything but cinnamon polyps, and charge at least $5/head when they do get anything else.

Good question.

I have some like these below (not my picture, posted earlier in the thread) that I've had for about a month now and they are doing well. I got a small frag, not a colony.

Yeah, I'm loving the orange skirt with the green circles. If anyone finds them for sale online shoot me a PM. I'm not seeing these "new" zoanthids at any US retailers, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Is anyone else having problems with colonies getting fungus other than the couple that already mentioned it? Perhaps it's because they're being fragged and sold too soon?

I got a couple frags. One was about 5 polyps and one was 10. They weren't shipped in very much water. One frag looked kind of fuzzy right out of the bag and was pretty much gone by the next AM. I attributed it to the delicate nature of these deepwater zoas people have been telling me about. Maybe it was the small volume of water?

Has anyone tried these zoos with cooler water tanks? You'd think if they're truly deep water then the water temperature down there would not be as high as some people keep their tanks.

Here are some...got these for $60 CDN so $50 USD and yes i mean the full colony.

where did you pick them up --those are great--might be worth the drive to TO from Hamilton

The term "deepwater" is what makes me go "Humm". What are we calling "deepwater" or is it just a catch phrase? Last time I knew the deeper you go the less colorful things get. And yet the zoanthids are just rich in color.
