Jebao Cross Flow Pump

Completely unbiased observation here.

Here is the experience of various pumps I've used over the past 3 years. I'll limit it to 3 years, since a lot can change in that time.

Jebao (17):
(2) WP60s, (1) RW20, (3) RW15s, (4) WP40s, (3) WP20s, (2) DCT4000s and (2) DC9000s.

I've had some pumps around 2 years.

I've had two power supplies fail and once I got replacements, they were fine.

One WP40 and one WP60 seized up. The WP60 started working again a few months later. There appears to be an easy fix for seized WPs, but I haven't tried it yet. Will try sometime on the WP40.

Had one controller melt on the input, I think it got wet. The controllers do spark if you have the power supply plugged into the wall and insert the power cord into the controller.

Reef Octopus (CoralVue) (3):

Three large DC skimmer pumps. New and old versions.

One pump seized up after a year and will only run for about 10 seconds before stopping.

Other two are fine.

Tunze (2):

Pump on a new skimmer never worked. Went to Tunze in town and Roger replaced it. The replacement seemed to work, but I sold the skimmer a week later.

Sicce (3):

(2) Voyager 10, (1) Voyager 4

One Voyager 10 completely seized up after occasional use.

The Voyager 4 will seize on power off and on. Have to stick a small rod into the unit and start turning the impeller to get it going again.

So to sum up my results of failures versus successes:

Jebao (Just counting WP40 currently not working):
1 out of 17 (~6%)

Jebao (Counting WP60 now working, replaced power supplies and WP40 not working):
4 out of 17 (~24%)

Reef Octopus (CoralVue):
1 out of 3 (33%)

Tunze:
1 out of 2 (50%)

Sicce:
2 out of 3 (66%)

I've never tried EcoTech pumps, but seeing I have 1" acrylic, I'd have to use ~ $700 MP60s. Not really worth it to me when there are much cheaper alternatives.

Remember even very high end things fail.

For fun, type "supercar fire" on Google :)

Thanks for your experiences- most likely fairly accurate accross the board.
Exspensive pumps do fail also- check!

I've had one wp40 fail, and one power supply for a DC12000 fail- replaced free.
For the price- I'm very happy and still using my 'cheap, chinese knock offs'

Hook 'em Horns!!

I work for a wholesaler here in South Florida. We hold all Jebao products and will be expecting some new test products (this gyre being one of them). We have jebao atos, dosers, rw line, dc pumps, and skimmers. In my year working here, I have had maybe 2-3 controllers come back dead (dc pumps) and one RW controller go out on me. We order these products in bulk and replenish about every two months. I owned two wp 10s for a year and I was the second owner, Geminiaquarist* owns them now (he is on RC) and they are still working. I own two RW8s for the past 8 months without a single cleaning, and they work flawlessly. I am no advocate of these products but I can honestly say I haven't heard horror stories about these pumps. My mentality is that its cheap and my jebaos have lasted quite some time. If and when they break, I won't be mad because I can simply buy a new one and still not have paid as much for an actual gyre or tunze (controllable). Just my .02. I know a lot of you want actual numbers on failure to success rate, but I can personally say this product is a lot better than the stereotypical "chinese stuff is garbage."

Who gives a rats who works for who ?
I'm mean seriously. Get over it, or stop being jealous you don't have/get/or wish they had access to... What ever it is just get over it...

Mooooving onn....

I've never used a gyre. Simply due to price point. I'm not shelling that out for piece of plastic that moves water. I'm hoping the jeboa is a hit honestly. Here's hoping its not a pile of junk !! Lol !

Does anyone know if it's 24V? I'm setting up a 24V battery backup system and that's what their pumps usually run at, so that would align nicely.

Are there really that many problems with the max spec ?I got so wrapped up in the bs about eight pages ago I skipped it over if it was already posted lol !
My bad lol !

There are quite a few problems if you read through the CoralVue/Maxspect forum here. A member of my local club also has a pair of them that emit micro bubbles all on their own (my guess is that there is a short somewhere and the DC current creating the bubbles through electrolysis). This pair has been tested in several tanks to make 100% sure that it wasn't an issue with sucking air from the top. In addition to that, they are apparently very difficult to clean because of disassembly/alignment related to the many small parts used in the product.

I doubt Jebao will be fixing any of this, but I could be wrong.

How old are they? Manufacturing date not purchasing date. I know older maxspect gyres had that issue. I got mine replaced under warranty due to the cord issue.

AFAIK maxspect has fixed all outstanding issues. Though it baffles me that the rugged prop doesn't come standard on the xf150 yet.

I'm not certain, there is a small thread about it in the CoralVue forum. To my knowledge the issue still has not been rectified despite being under the warranty period.

I'm assuming this is a relatively isolated incident related to the older wiring insulation issue but who knows. I will also assume that the impending Jebao gyre will not run into this wiring issue as they will likely use the same wiring that they use in their other 24v DC pumps (speculation).

You have to think the reason coralvue STILL hasn't released the long overdue xf170 is because they don't want to release another version with so many issues...

Wow.....
Glad I didn't give in to my inner geek and get one lol !
You would expect certain problems to arise with a brand new product but such a huge issue like electric shock...
Wowza !
I mean cleaning issues....crap like that...its to be expected.
It's obviously and engineers baby and to an engineer things like that are futile in the face of artisan.
Harsh, but fact
Now the safety side.....
The electromechanical genius that fouled that up needs to pay for the revamp in design himself...
Unless that is exactly what the buyer wanted ?
Cheap parts....

Like I said, this is most likely an isolated incident, unless other owners have the same issue and don't even know it. It would be very hard to say either way without being purely speculation. They did have issues with the insulation on the wiring harness splitting and exposing the wiring to saltwater though. I believe that issue has been rectified in the newer pumps and older pumps (still in warranty) are getting replacements.

Luckily, I don't think this issue will exist with the Jebao product as they already make several 24v pumps and will probably use the same wiring harness.

Lol what are you talking about? I'm simply stating the longevity of the product and its reliability. You are hoping a product line that thousands of people have used is a "hit." That is exactly what I am trying to imply.... That I have sold hundreds of these pumps and have had few returns for broken pumps.
