I can't seam to find Seaklear here in Canada, has anyone used any other brands?

Thank you for the reply. For this use I'm actually using rodi water and then moving onto saltwater..

I cured mine exactly in this manner. As Tom said,...recheck a couple times to make sure it has stopped leaching for you. I first tried to cure the rock in the tank,...after the LC treatment my Hanna was reading 0.03/0.04ish but in a few days it would drift back up higher than I wanted.

Long story short,...worked for me

Got my 10m socks at McMaster-Carr,...good price in the US,...I think they ship to Canada, but you might be able to find them cheaper. You should look for the Seaklear commercial for the right strength.(not CR). I searched for and found mine on ebay, and thought I came across Canadian sellers that would sell and ship to the US while I was searching.---Rick

You don't want to use a 200 micron filter sock with LC.

I picked up the 200micron bags for general maintenance and the 10micron bags for the LC dosing.

Bone head me, however, mixed up the bags when I did my first round of dosing and dosed into the 200micron bag! Drip dosed a gallon RO/DI water with 5ml LC over 3 hours (my total system water volume is around 65 gallons) Fortunately, there was no damage to the livestock.. Put the 10 micron bags on for a while to see if i could extract any precipitate that may have been in the water column, skimmed wet and vacuumed the shallow sand bed, and rocks once I realized what I had done.

Battling GHA again. Phosphates are at 0.35. Sometime back I dosed 5 ML per liter of RODI and it helped. This time I tried again with 5 ML in 1L RODI water and it does not make a dent.

I am reading more recent posts it is recommended at 1:1 ratio. Am I reading this right? Should I try something like 25 ml of LC in 25 ml of RODI?

Also, I am using GHL doser which is not a continuous doser. Can I mix the solution and dose the entire solution throughout the day instead of over an hour?

I just picked up Seaklear Phosphate Remover...not CR. Looks like I got the commercial strength but its all they (or anyone) had locally. I have dead reef rock in a 32g BRUTE with fresh salt water. I have PO4 leaching issues and this is the method I chose. I am hoping someone can tell me how much LC to put in the container. With commercial grade, should I still use 5ml per litre? or is it 5ml total or less? I am so confused as to how much to add.

I need an expert advice. I think I dosed too much LC. I added about 1.5 capfuls (maybe 10ml) to a 32g bucket with reef rock (pukani or fuji). There is a powerhead in there too. I am posting on this in another thread I started but wanted to post this question here too.

Did I harm my rock by coating it with LC? If so, what do I do now? I could acid wash it after I get rid of high phosphates. Thoughts??

If there is no life involved, no worries, a few water changes and vigorous "swishing" will solve your problem.

The lantanum chloride breaks into lanthanum and chloride in the water. The lanthanum binds with PO4 and some with carbonate forming precipitants, lanthanum phosaphte and lantahumun carbonate. Neither of these dissolve in water unless it is quite acidic. Salt water is basic: so the precipitant is not a major issue except in as much as it can clog filter feeders and breathing apparatusess on some animals and might be ingested. Rinsing it off after the rock stops leaching phospahte is sufficient, IME.

I switched from sea klear to natural chemical phosfree, did any post the amounts for the mix, it seems to me deluted more

Maybe.
Anything water can pass through will let some free lanthanum through if it's not precipitated as may occur if it's not dosed very slowly to a high volume of water holding phosphate and caorbonate, though.

I've treated leaching rock in a curing bin.
The procedure I used: put the rock in new salt water ;
a small power head in the bin for circlatltion and aeration;
wait a few days; test PO4 ; if near zero wait and test it again after a week or so;
if still near zero the rock is not leaching;
if it is leaching add lanthnaum chloride to the bin to get the water to near zero( say .15 ppm PO4 or less);
Dose daily until the water maintains a low PO4 reading for a week.

I don't bother with a filter sock in this application,probably wouldn't hurt ; I rinse the loose lanthanum phosphate and lanthanum carbonate off the rock before it goes to the aquarium.

For dead rock( dry rock) you may get even better results in the low range using fresh water since you will get less lanthanum carbonate precitant and more lanthanum phospahte, I think.

This sounds like a solid plan. Wondering how much LC do you add. I have my live rock in a 32 brute.
