guys altho i,m not a member, i follow this thread. i got a grouper today in the back of the inlet. it's about 3 1/2" long. the pattern on the skin makes me think nassau, but no black spot on the tail and an overall greenish tint. any clue? getting a pic may be hard.
in the tank this am, relaxed. the pattern is very light. the gill plate area almost looks like the pattern has a very light blue tint to the edges and the tail is rounded, not square and the overall color is a light olive drab
Going with the rounded tail, possible Goliath Grouper, Graysby or Rock Hind...with last two typically having a lot of speckles. However, coloration can be somewhat hard to go by in juveniles, making body shape and fins more diagnostic.
The kids don't use the pool much... ;-) She was beautiful! and only about 5ft perfect for Atlantis!
Greg (The Capt.) was floored when he saw her on the line! Never before have I seen one let alone catch one.
Thanks guys. I have never heard of them up here either. However this year we were not the only ones catching them! Be careful at the beach! It was very aggressive!
We also saw Bottlenose dolphin! Not the ones you always see, the bigger all gray ones from down south. Never seen them up here either.
Also there were smaller fish swimming in the chum that we couldn't identify?? And caught about 26 Longfin squid.
Good luck at FI inlet. I stopped going because everytime I go there is at least 1 or 2 maybe even 3 people netting with big 50ft nets!
Mid Aug. you should be seeing Butterfly's but some years they just never show up?
