local tropical reports

No I have three pairs. I am trying to breed them.only 1 out of 1000 baby live in the wild if I can I will be helping that couse. That's my goal.

Its a nice idea, but even if you were successful in raising them, you can not release them back into the wild. The wild population would be put at risk from exotic disease.

Unless you are culturing or capturing copepods you will not be successful with Northern H. Erectus. They need pristine water quality! Any harmful bacteria and you can kiss them all goodbye, that's if they eat to begin with.

Taking 25 from the wild is doing a lot of damage. As you stated 1 out of a 1000 makes it. So by you catching and taking 25 this means 25,000 will have to be born to make up the seahorses you took.

If you are serious about breeding seahorse I may be able to help. I just got back from the Marine Breeders Initiative in MI. There was a very good presentation given by Dan Underwood of Seahorse source. George_g (Who you know) recorded the session. Maybe he can post? I'll talk to him or you can send him a PM.

Good Luck,

P.S. It's not against the law to take a couple but if they see you with 25 you will get a ticket for commercial use. Since the DEC is broke like every other agency don't think you will just get a warning.

It would be cool to have a tank I can fit every fish.but That'not going to happen.we caught about 50 groupers .At least 200 +pipe fish.20/30 puffer. I don't have all of these fish.I post to let every one know what's out there. As for the seahorse one of my 6 pairs I got from the club.So every one just chill.

The fish are not an issue as they will die as the water gets cold.
It sounded very much like you kept them. The sad thing is if you didn't I am sure someone else did. I've seen local seahorse in the lfs lately.

The point of breeding is not to let them go but to flood the lfs and wholesalers so there is no market for wild caught. I think that's what you were trying to say?

I only have 3 pairs when we started talking about it.I got them to breed. I ben feeding the baby's copods .I was offering you one of my pairs becouse I know you have ben doing it for a good time now.I go to collected becouse its fun to see what's out there. My intentions are only good ones.its all good.

That's not cool people taking them for that reason.I love all fish I tell my wife if I can go back in time I would have love to be a marine biologist.

Spent three hours collecting at Ponquogue bridge with family and friends this past Wednesday. Only got one tropical, but we kept him. He is a snowy grouper, Epinephelus niveatus. These guys are pretty smart. Whenever anyone goes over to the tank, the grouper comes right to the front glass, and looks the surface. I've been feeding him half sized beach fleas, which he sucks right down. He has refused flake food.
