So David, when are you getting in and where will you be staying? I get in Thursday night and am going to stay over at the Westin...

my flight get in Wednesday morning at 11:00. I'm staying The westin also. I couldn't pass up a few extra days in Miami. A beach front hotel for only 120 anight.

Dan Hows your ph doing this summer? mine is low. I have to get an air exchanger set up

With a calc reactor i have always had a bad problem with low ph as well.. I added a Avast marine works Kalk Reactor and the low PH problems have definatly stabilized a ton. The PH never goes below 8.1 now even at night!! Usually 8.3-8.35 during the day.. Before I installed the kalkreactor my PH would never go above 7.9 and usually was 7.7 at night.

that's good to know

There are a few good recent chemistry threads about pH and Kalk. The use of Kalk in a top off reservoir can solve your pH issue in addition to a simple CO2 scrubber. Kalk reactors are not needed if your auto-top off is saturated with Kalk and you attend to the CO2 in the room (s). I like to keep my system simple and I disregard fads or methods without solid data backing their necessity. Kalk reactors are really not needed if your system is well designed. By I realize many use them nevertheless. Good luck.

I have 16 tangs all different .I added a purple tang. They beat the Crap out of him. He is in refugium now. looks like he will be okay. I put in a large trap 3 days ago.
My question is. If I catch 4 to 6 tangs and move them to sump for two weeks then put them all back in at once. Do you think two weeks is long enough?

David,

You just hit right up my alley... I now have 33 Tangs or 16 pairs + 1 in my system.

Let your Purple Tang stay in the sump for a couple of weeks and get strong and healthy. Before you place him back in your tank, get an acclimation box (I just make them out of egg-crate and wire ties) and hang it or place it in the aquarium with the Purple Tang inside.

Let the fish get used to one another for a good week or two (my boxes are pretty big). I usually feed through the box so that all of the fish are coming up to it. When you think the fish is ready, release it at night when the lights go out and cross your fingers.

I imagine the aggressors in your tank will probably be your yellow tangs and other zebrasoma varieties as their shapes are so similar. Once the Purple is adjusted, you'll see, he is a powerful tang that can hold his own.

Good luck!
