Being that the corners are reinforced with steel. I too, would have left the bottom and top framework exposed as well. I love the overall look of the tank and stand. You are doing a great job and should be very proud of yourself.

Thank you
The corners are not reinforced. They are just real dark.

I want to make the canopy so just my wife and I can remove it somehow. It will have to come off from time to time. I'm not getting any younger. not sure how I am going to do this. I can’t go up with the canopy, the ceiling is in the way. I did talk about using 3 barn door slider's. The canopy will hang 1/8 above the tank. The lip of the canopy will cover-up the top edge of the tank. Then when needed I will slide it out into living room. I realize I will need to unplug all the lights.
Any and all ideas needed please.
I want to do this Or pay someone this weekend.

I'd lift it with a pulley and then roll it on heavy wooden dowels onto a drywall lift maybe. I have no idea if this would actually work - but you answered my question so I figured I'd try and answer yours.

Do you have room on both ends to have the light rack come out?
If you do I would mount drawer sliders to each side of the light racks, with them also mounted to the canopy. This would be a slide out "drawer" one behind each door. Once the "drawer" is slid out you could detach the rack from the canopy(they make slides that when pulled out you can release them from the side). This way you only have to lift three of them at a time.
Sorry for the bad pic but the best i could do.
You would do the same on both sides.
Red mounts to light frame
Black mounts to canopy

no room on sides. It wont be a big deal to unplug the lights and move them with the canopy. I won't have to remove the canopy very often.

David, The whole thing looks awesome!

As far as the canopy is concerned, what if you were to break the canopy up into pieces so it becomes modular.

Make the whole front panel removable with some hinges or something inside, so all you have to do is remove a few screws and it comes off. That way the only seam is on the ends.

You could cut the rest of the canopy in half right down the center of the tank. You could then probably slide off each piece individually just you and your wife? With that cut, it will only be noticeable from the top which isn't really visible. You could add some sort of decorative piece of wood on the front at the top that slides on and off to cover the seam, maybe a fake keystone or something.

I can't draw or I would sketch it out for you.

No!!!!!! this was built by a cabinet man. He would kill me if I started cutting on it

I cant wait to see how the Radions do for you. Can you tell me why you didnt go with AI Sol Blues? Great build.

Thank you
It was a hard choice. I hear AI has great customer service. I know ecotech has great customer service. I have 2 mp60' s and 2 mp40's and love them. I talked with both at macna. Ecotech had a release date. AL said sometime soon. They are still not released.
The way ecotech does business is very impressive. They made a great product in the past. I think the new lights will be the best out there.

Great points. Had I not bought my AIs a year ago I to would have had a hard choice. Question, do you MP 40s have a load drive side? Mine is load. I can her the drive all the way across my house. I love them but they are laud. PS: I am getting great ideas for the skins on my stand from your build. Thats the last thing I need to do is skin my cabinet. Great build.

P

I'm not sure what you mean by a load drive side. mine are not very loud.
When you skin your stand be sure to drill out the holes bigger, so when the wood swells.
