My 240g FOWLR

Well this sucks, not the kind of update I was looking for... I am very sorry you’re dealing with such a nightmare Peter. Is there anyplace near you that could perform an autopsy on one of the deceased for you?

No one shows any symptoms of anything in the diplay... I can't fix it if I don't know what's broken. Just one day one fish will stop eating, and be dead in 3 days. I've never really seen anything like it, and am at a loss.

Have you ruled out flukes (f/w dip)?

Do any of you run a UV? Disclaimer: I know it's not a cure for ich, etc ...
Just wondering if you think it's helpful ... I'm considering one

I don't. It's my opinion that you'd be better off running a good ozone system through your skimmer if you are trying to sterilize your water.

My understanding of uv ( admittedly limited) is that they require a lot of maintenance to function properly, cleaning bulbs and replacing bulbs at the appropriate intervals.

That may be outdated, but it's my understanding currently.

I think your spot on, Carib. I won't hijack Peters thread - I'll start a new one. I was curious if the mysterious deaths could be limited through the use of a uv. The thought of ozone is intimidating to me.

Good point. I have an Ozone unit from my reef.... I will add it to my FO skimmer.

Agreed, I don't run it at the moment, but am considering it in the future. I think there are some really good controllers out there now. :bounce1:

My three year old wanted me to add, "the blue jumping thing" in my note.

It's just so weird to see so many "sensitive" fish being fine.... And losing fish :(

Sorry for the losses Peter! For what it is worth I run a UV to help clear my water, and to hopefully control any organism passed into my DT despite the use of cupramine and prazi.

Hey Peter, had a quick question for you.

I assume you've still got your rock beauty. I'm considering picking one up in the near future. I've heard its a fish that struggles in captivity long term. Do you feed your anything with sponges specifically?

Do you think it's a fish that could be paired easily?

Hey Matt, yes, I still have the rock beauty. I don't feed anything special. It eats everything, including pellets, and is always very fat. I have no idea about pairing though.

That's what I wanted to hear. I'm still on the fence about picking one or two up. I'm going to wait until Monday to see if there is anything new on the list before I order.

Glad to hear she's doing well, I can't get over their eye color. Hope all is quiet in your corner of the ocean.

Things seemed to have settled down here. No further losses, and everyone looks happy and healthy.

I'm more focused on the reef now, since it's ready to get livestock in it :)
